WWCOTY judges presents “2024 Best Car” trophy for EV9 to Kia head designer

MANILA: The Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has officially presented the “Best Car of 2024” trophy to the Kia EV9 in South Korea.

Three WWCOTY judges flew to EV9’s home country to present the award in question to the Head of Kia Design Next Group, Teckkoun Kim, at the Busan International Mobility Show. 

The aforementioned judges from WWCOTY were Sheran Shabnam from UAE, Nicole Wakelin from the USA, and WWCOTY founder Sandy Myhre from New Zealand. 

According to Kim, the award bestowed on the EV9 will help it gain more recognition. 

“It gives another twist to customers when juries like yours recognize the EV9 because you are the experts and you know which EV or vehicle works for the consumer experience,” Kim said.

Besides the short but simple turning-over ceremony of the WWCOTY trophy, the three judges of the awarding body were also interviewed through various Korean multimedia channels.

At the said interviews, Shabnam praised the vehicle’s design, particularly its low beltline. Wakelin also commented on the sporty looks of the Korean EV’s wheels. Mhyre. On the other hand, shared the extensive judging process the WWCOTY adhered to in picking the EV9 as the group’s top pick for 2024.

Released in 2024, the EV9 is touted as a long-range, high-performance model filled to the brim with onboard amenities and creature comforts.

In its most powerful form, the Korean electric SUV can produce up to 379 horsepower and 703 Newton-meters of torque. Power is sent to all four of its wheels. It is likewise equipped with torque vectoring, terrain modes, and up to 2,268 kilograms of towing capacity.
