Yulo officially receives Toyota Land Cruiser Prado

MANILA: Weeks after announcing over social media, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially turned over a brand-new Land Cruiser Prado to Filipino Olympian Carlos Yulo.

The top automotive distributor in the country formally handed over the promised unit to the two-time gold medalist at the TMP Headquarters in Sta. Rosa, Laguna that was witnessed by hundreds of the company’s team members.

Leading the vehicle turnover ceremony were TMP President Masando Hashimoto and Vice Chairman Dr. David Go.

“Thank you, Caloy, for being an inspiration. Like the Prado, you are legendary in every way. We hope the Prado will Move Your World and help you achieve even more,” Hashimoto said in his speech.

Hashimoto added that Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) Chairman Akio Toyoda is “very proud of him and all the athletes who pushed themselves to achieve the impossible.”

Aside from the getting his new vehicle (given to recognize his triumph at the 2024 Paris Olympics), Yulo toured around the manufacturing facility and gave him a glimpse of how the Philippine-made Toyota models Vios, Innova, and the soon-to-be launched Tamaraw are assembled locally.

“I know this gift isn’t just about me. It’s about this community that has been cheering me on. Toyota, I am so grateful to be a part of your team, this leading brand, this community, and I hope that this gift will inspire others to also chase their own dreams and never give up,” Yulo said during his acceptance speech.

The Olympian now has a 2025 Land Cruiser Prado with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder, in-line, 16-valve double overhead cam turbo gasoline engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. He personally selected the White Pearl Mica colorway.

Aside from the chosen color, the vehicle (recently brought to the country), it is also available in Avant Garde Bronze and Black Mica.

Measuring 4,925 millimeters (mm) long; 1,980 mm wide; and 1,935 mm tall, the vehicle is retailed with a starting price of P4.8 million.

The seven-seater premium sport utility vehicle comes with leather seats (electronically-adjustable for front occupants) two 12.3-inch digital displays (cluster gauge and Android Auto- and Apple Carplay-ready infotainment system), and wireless charging dock.

Further, the Land Cruiser Prado’s powertrain — which is equipped with six drive modes (Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport S, Sports S+, Custom —   can provide 277 horses and 430 Newton-meters of torque. Control and stopping power come from ventilated disc brakes.

It also has numerous technologies that include the Toyota Safety Sense suite of features as well as vehicle security system.

To recall, Yulo earned his first Olympic gold medal in the individual men’s vault in artistic gymnastics, and his second in the individual men’s floor exercise — making him the first Filipino and Southeast Asian to win multiple gold medals at the quadrennial meet.

Earlier, Yulo went back to Paris for the Paralympic Games to show his support to the Philippine Paralympic athletes and engaged in discussions on giving back to the communities that have helped shaped them as athletes.
