Kawasaki Fury: Alternatives to consider
The Kawasaki Fury has been revolutionary in many different ways. Its hybrid (or crossbreed) design as they like to call it blends elements from both motorcycles and undertones. It is also more performance oriented than its competitors in the same engine class, with the Fury 125RR. With its powerful engine, high acceleration, and superb mileage, the Fury is an excellent bike. But at the same time, there are its competitors. A few seconds of research will reveal that the market is just inundated with bikes that are just as good and often much better than the Kawasaki Fury. Here’s a look at three of them.
Honda RS125i
At Php 70,900, the Honda RS125i falls right between the Php 65,900 Fury and the Php 74,900 Fury RR. This makes it very competitive. Producing 9.5 bhp of the Fury’s 9.66cc and 9.59 Nm of torque compared to the Kawasaki’s 9.22 Nm, it is very much in the same league as the Kawasaki. The Honda is also fuel injected, unlike the carbureted Fury. There is, however, a tiny fuel tank of just 3.9 litres on the Honda which compared to the Kawasaki’s protruding 5.2 litres tank feels inadequate. The fuel efficiency figure on the Honda also lags behind at just 60 kmpl compared to the Kawasaki’s 68 kmpl. It also has a bigger under-seat storage area, a front mounted fuel tank, and better brakes (on the RR). Compared to the Honda RS125i, it feels like a much more performance oriented machine. The Honda then is more of a laid back commuter with decent grunt, practicality, and reliability working in its favour. But it does cost a lot more than the standard Fury which makes you think whether what you are paying is going towards the product or the badge that the product comes with. Still, that badge is worth its weight in gold, and the RS125i is a perfect bike.
Honda Wave 125 Alpha
The Fury is not the only crossbreed underbone on offer. The Wave 125 Alpha puts a new spin on the underbone formula by adding elements of scooter design into the mix. The classic headlight surround and the apron that covers the entire front fascia of the underbone gives it a distinctive look. The front apron not only improves the aerodynamics of the bike but also protects the rider’s legs from the anything hurled by the tires. The Wave makes a niche for itself by being very comfortable, lightweight at just 100 kg, and very affordable at Php 60,900. For this price, you get a 125cc engine producing 8.7 hp, 10.07 Nm of torque, and returning 55 kmpl average fuel economy. Surprisingly it also comes with a disc brake in the front, a chain cover and large alloys. However, it too has a small fuel tank of just 3.7 litres. Despite these small niggles, this is a very good underbone for anyone that wants a comfortable and reliable commuter. It represents good value for money. It was meant to be a successor to the Honda Super Cub and is certainly capable of carrying the same legacy.
Suzuki raider J115i
Possibly the closest competition that the Fury in terms of sheer performance comes from a bike that has an engine with smaller displacement. The smaller displacement, however, has its own advantage. It can be more powerful than a 100cc bike – in this case almost as powerful as 125 cc bike – while still burning much less fuel per km than a 125cc vehicle. This formula has been very well executed for the Suzuki J115i FI. The name might say 115, but the engine displaces 113cc. That does not stop it, however, from producing 9.25 hp and 9.1 Nm of torque. With the aid of the fuel injection mapping, the fuel economy figure is also very encouraging at 63 kmpl. These numbers are then made even more appealing by the price of the bike. Php 64,900 will get you the standard version with spoke wheels. Php 67,900 will get you Suzuki’s MotoGP livery while Php 68,900 will afford you a premium matte black variant that comes with spoked wheels and titanium colored engine. All these variants, however, come standard with under-seat storage and a front disc brake. The small fuel tank of 3.7 litre sours it a bit but not too much. A pretty sweet deal if you ask anyone.
These are three bikes you can consider over the Kawasaki Fury.
