Motorcycles we want to see in PH this 2025

In 2024, the Philippine market saw a lot of developments when it comes to motorcycles. Numerous companies each saw several big launches, such as Honda Philippines Incorporated with the Winner X, Royal Enfield Philippines with the Shotgun 650 and Guerilla 450, and the Aprilia Philippines’ SR GT 200 Racing Replica and RS 457 - among others.

The motorcycles Zigwheels Philippines wants to see in the Philippines this year are the KTM SMC R 125 and 390, the Royal Enfield Bear 650, the Suzuki DR-Z4SM, the updated Ducati Panigale V2, and the Yamaha Nmax Turbo.

The Yamaha Nmax Turbo is currently available in Indonesia.
  • So, with the opening of the New Year, there is no doubt that many brands are gearing up to grace us anew with all new or updated rides.

For now, though, we aren’t certain about what’s to come for the Philippine motorcycle scene, but here’s a list of two-wheeler nameplates we wish we would see in the local market this 2025.

    KTM SMC R 125, 390

Just as 2025 started, KTM globally launched the SMC R 125 and SMC R 390. Per the Austrian motorcycle manufacturer, the two are potent supermoto models that combine agile handling and performance with the accessibility and ease of use of single-cylinder models.

Appearance-wise, both borrow the unmistakably angular looks of the much larger SMC R 690. Both also come with WP Apex suspension systems, a 4.2-inch thin-film-transistor (TFT) digital display, anti-lock braking (ABS), Bybre radial disc brakes, and a pair of Michelin Power 6 tires. Exclusive to the larger 390-cubic centimeter (cc) model is a “Supermoto ABS” option for experienced riders.

Power-wise, the SMC R 390 uses a 390-cc engine capable of producing up to 44 horsepower (hp) and 39 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. The smaller SMC R 125, on the other hand, is propelled by a 125-cc engine that’s good for 14.7 hp and 11.5 Nm of torque

Here is a table summarizing the specifications of the global market SMC R 125 and SMC R 390:

    Royal Enfield Bear 650

Royal Enfield Philippines, under the management of Motociclista Scatola Incorporated (MSI), has been working hard to expand its local product offering. As mentioned above, the marque’s local arm has expanded its offering with two models in 2024: the Guerilla 450 roadster and the Shotgun 650, which is a factory-custom bobber.

Now, in 2025, we would also like to see MSI bring in the Bear 650 as a new offering. Doing so, after all, may fill in the “scrambler-shaped hole” in the company’s locally available lineup.

For its specs, the Indian market Royal Enfield Bear 650 uses a 648-cc capable of producing up to 46.7 hp and 56.5 Nm of torque. Style-wise, it seeks to combine the classic and the modern with its 1970s-flavored dual-sport-style look paired with the all-digital Tripper Dash display, a digital spark ignition system, front and rear disc brakes, and a dual-channel ABS.

    Suzuki DR-Z4SM

Suzuki Philippines Incorporated currently offers a wide selection of models competing in a multitude of market segments. This is good, but the brand’s local arm currently lacks a supermoto option.

Luckily, Suzuki introduced the DR-Z4SM at the 2024 Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori (EICMA). For now, Suzuki said that it will be heading for the North American and European markets first, but it could be part of the Japanese marque’s local arm as its prime offering for folks wanting a supermoto ride.

In a nutshell, the newly launched two-wheeler bears sharp styling details courtesy of angular fairings. Further honing its high-tech feel is its array of features, such as traction control, ride mode selector, and ABS.

When it comes to engines, the DR-Z4SM utilizes a 398-cc single-cylinder, dual-overhead-camshaft engine. At maximum, the said motor can generate up to 37.5 hp and 37 Nm of torque.

    Updated Ducati Panigale V2

Another motorcycle we’d want to see in the Philippine market in 2025 is the updated Ducati Panigale V2.

The revamped Italian sportbike was first introduced at the 2024 EICMA, and we want to see it locally due to its sheer number of performance-related improvements.

For starters, the V2’s overall weight of 176 kilograms (kg) makes it one of the lightest versions of the Panigale ever made. The aforementioned is achieved by its engine, which is 9.4 kg lighter compared to the older version’s engine.

Regardless of its featherweight poundage, the powerplant is still a beast capable of producing up to 120 hp and 93.5 Nm of torque. The updated Panigale V2 also comes with a Marzocchi fork and a Kayaba rear shock absorber as standard. The higher-spec Panigale V2 S, meanwhile, takes it up a notch with its front and rear Öhlins suspension systems.

Other noteworthy features of the new Ducati Panigale V2 include a sport-tuned ABS, four customizable ride modes, a five-inch TFT display, a six-axis inertial measurement device, and an anti-wheelie system - among others.

As a side note, the pre-updated Ducati Panigale V2 is still available locally with a price of P1.19 million.

    Yamaha Nmax Turbo

When it comes to scooters, we’d also love to see the Yamaha Nmax Turbo see a local release.

In summary, the aforementioned model builds upon the success of the Nmax nameplate in the Southeast Asian region. It bears a larger profile than the locally available model, and it has a much more impactful appearance thanks to a new taillight, a new handlebar design, and a dual-projector LED lighting system.

Additionally, the Nmax Turbo received an updated TFT digital display, and a tweaked version of the 155-cc Blue Core engine. Specifically, the said powerplant can generate up to 15 hp and 14.2 Nm of torque. For reference, the Philippine-spec Nmax can deliver a slightly lower torque output of 13.9 Nm.

Additional mechanical improvements on the Nmax Turbo are the new Yamaha Electric Continuously Variable Transmission and the T-Shift feature. Per the Japanese marque, the two components enhance the model’s rideability and fun factor. The T-Shift, in particular, is noteworthy for its ability to provide a “turbo sensation” when operating the bike.

    Final thoughts

There you have it, folks, the six motorcycles we want to see in the Philippine market in 2025. Sure, the list above is quite varied, but it is by no means a complete list of models that may yet reach the local scene.

    So, which one’s your favorite?
