Angkas donates moto shields, provides free rides for Pasig healthcare workers
MANILA: Angkas, the pioneering motorcycle taxi ride-hailing platform, worked with Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto to give free rides and Angkas shields to the city's health care workers (HCWs). This is part of Angkas’ efforts to aid the medical frontliners of the country one local government unit at a time.
In a short turnover ceremony on August 13 at the Pasig City Hall, Mayor Sotto, together with Chief of Traffic and Parking Management Office Mandy Amparo, accepted the IATF-approved passenger shields from Angkas Chief Transport Advocate George Royeca.
Angkas is working closely with the Pasig City hospitals to make sure that its riders are deployed in locations where they are urgently needed to ferry HCWs safely and conveniently to their homes. This is to help medical frontliners save much effort and time in looking or waiting for public transportation.
Currently, Pasig City has 2,000 HCWs assigned in its hospitals, which also include the COVID-19 referral facility, the Pasig City Children’s Hospital, as well as the government-operated Pasig City General Hospital.
Royeca explained, “Tinanggap po ni Mayor Vico ang ating Angkas shields para po ipamigay sa ating mga frontliners Ang mga Angkas bikers naman ay tutulong magbigay ng libreng sakay sa ating frontliners. Hopefully, makatulong talaga tayo sa mga pangangailangan ng Pasig City (Mayor Vico received the Angkas shields so they could given to the frontliners. Our Angkas bikers, on the other hand, will help in providing free rides to our frontliners. Hopefully, we will be able to help with the needs of Pasig City).”
Royeca also acknowledged the efforts of Mayor Sotto in converting Pasig City efficiently into a health hub, while establishing pathways and infrastructure for safe transport that the public can benefit from.
Royeca added that the mayor has been proactive in responding and determining the needs of the city’s HCWs, and that he has consistently advocated safe and efficient pandemic-free transportation projects that Angkas has also been promoting for the past months.
Royeca has previously recognized the importance of LGUs as one of the keys to economic recovery from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Moreover, the free rides for HCWs and the shield donations to Pasig City happened after a similar collaboration was forged with Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso of Manila.
Last week, Angkas also collaborated with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 for the deployment of 1,000 bikers to hospitals and the donation of 1,000 passenger shields.
