Honda TMX Supremo: Features explained
Honda is the dominant force when it comes to two-wheelers in the Philippines. Not only does the Japanese bike maker have a large portfolio to suit every pocket, but it also commands a premium feel. The price difference is apparent when you check a similar offering from Suzuki or Yamaha for instance. Honda has a portfolio of underbones, scooters, mopeds, commuter bikes, off-road motorcycles as well as sports bikes. Today, we are going to discuss the Honda TMX Supremo motorcycle. It is a commuter bike but is now in its third generation. The motorcycle has been one of the highest selling 150 cc bike in the Philippines. However, now it is long relegated into the realms of unknown. So, what makes the TMX Supremo special? Let’s find out.
Design and features
The Honda TMX Supremo for that matter looked quite stylish in its previous form. The current-generation bike looks a bit subdued. Honda has given it halogen headlights, snazzy graphics, an instrument console that sits above the light and 18-inch spoked tyres. The company says that the spoked tyres work better in our conditions and given the higher loads they have to carry day in and out. The meter console is a simple two pod affair with a tachometer on the left, odo on the right, and a fuel gauge in the middle. Beneath are the telltale lights. The raised handlebar has your headlight controls, a pass light switch as well as the indicator button. Honda has given an electric start along with the kick starter. A secure key shutter ignition also has been provided for. Honda also offers a choke system on the handlebar. This helps with cold starts.
One look at the seats and you know this has been tuned for comfort. The Honda TMX Supremo is built for the long haul. There are three separate luggage attachment points on the rear panel. The tubular grab rail can also accommodate some luggage. The tail light is a simple bulb affair. Honda has got a chrome heat shield over the silencer. Length, width, and height of the motorcycle is 2,041 x 771 x 1,071 mm respectively. The wheelbase of the motorcycle is 1,306 mm.
Engine and transmission
Honda uses a 150 cc 4-stroke, OHC, air-cooled engine in the TMX Supremo. Fuel is fed to the engine via a carburetor. This engine produces 11.03 PS of power and torque of 11.60 Nm. The transmission is a 5-speed unit. Claimed mileage of the TMX Supremo is 62 kmpl. This coupled with the 10-litre fuel tank should ensure a range of over 600 km. Honda is saying that the motorcycle has been tuned on the milder side so that it runs reliably for years to come. This also has a positive effect on the fuel economy. Given that the kerb weight is only 121 kg, expect decent performance from the motor as well.
Ride and handling
Honda uses a telescopic suspension both for the front and rear. The rear is preload adjustable as well. The brakes are drums in the front and rear. Ground clearance of the motorcycle is 165 mm. Unfortunately combined braking system or ABS is not even on offer.
Final words
The Honda TMX Supremo is priced at Php 72,900. There are two colors to choose from - Candy Red and Fiery Black. At this price point, it faces competition from the 125 cc vehicles but Honda has time and again proved that the Supremo is one hell of a reliable machine.
