SEAT unveils e-Scooter and e-KickScooter
MANILA: During the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, Spanish automaker SEAT introduced its first-ever electrified offering the e-Scooter concept. The e-Kickscooter and e-Scooter concept are the brand’s way of promoting urban mobility and their business strategic shift.
First, the KickScooters is designed in collaboration with Segway and is already on the production model stage. The new generation kickScooter is powered by a 551 Wh battery and a range of up to 65 km.
The e-Scooter, on the other hand, is set to have a market launch in 2020. It is powered by a 7 kW motor that can deliver 14.8 hp of power and 240 Nm of peak torque. The e-Scooter has a top speed of 100kmph and has an estimated range of 115 km based on test results. What’s great about the e-scooter is its use of a conventional electrical plug and battery to make charging easy.
The removable battery pack can be easily taken out to charge at home, at work, or even while having coffee in a café. The battery pack can also be connected to a mobile app that lets you track the battery charge level or location of your bike just in case it gets missing which is a great feature Pinoys would love. Besides the removable battery, the e-Scooter also has ample storage space under the seat enough to fit two helmets.
In charge of the creation of the e-Scooter concept is the new SEAT Urban Mobility business unit that’s, according to SEAT President Luca de Meo, is responsible for enabling the company to “focus our efforts on the user’s new mobility needs.
SEAT is the micro-mobility centre of competence for the Volkswagen Group, and that means developing purpose-designed products for all the Group’s brands, not only for SEAT. In addition, we will also deliver services and solutions for private customers and for fleets.” And just for info, the current portfolio of SEAT includes two kickScooters, one saddle-type scooter, and one pocket-sized electric car aimed at car-sharing programs.
