Yamaha Mio Aerox 155: Reasons to buy

In little over a year since its launch, the Mio Aerox 155 has gained immense popularity. The ABS equipped S variant was launched only a few months ago and has succeeded in making the proposition even more appealing. And a bit more expensive. But this price means that the Mio Aerox 155 is loaded to the brim with features. Here then are the major reasons why you would want to buy an Aerox.

Sporty aggression

Undoubtedly the most aggressive in the Mio lineup, this underbone looks like nothing else. It has the styling to match its performance. It takes inspiration from superbikes much bigger than it and moulds the styling to fit its frame. From the dual LED light headlights and taillights, the racy stance, the gorgeous sporty bodywork to the racy graphics, it makes no attempts to hide its sporty inclinations. More functional elements like the wide tires and the sporty exhaust and subtler touches like how the rear grab handles do not break the lines of the seat, only add to the bike’s sporty flair. The S variant comes with exclusive color schemes – matt blue and white – which make the Aerox, even more, easier to spot on the road. Not that you would have missed it in the first place.

 

Modern engine

The most aggressive looking scooter in the Mio lineup is also the most powerful. Powering it is a 155cc liquid cooled, four valve engine that produces 15 PS at 8000 rpm and 13.8 Nm of torque at 6250 rpm. This is enough to propel the lightweight 118 kg bike to a top speed of up to 121 kmph. Power delivery is sprightly for an automatic and doing wheelies is easy. But the engine is more sophisticated than you might think. It comes with variable valve actuation that gives it an optimum balance between power and torque across the rev range – more torque at low speeds and more power at higher speeds. Using Yamaha’s Blue Core engine tech it stays cooler, wastes lesser fuel and manages a higher mileage without compromising on the power. That last figure goes as high as 45 kmpl which makes it one of the more fuel-efficient performance underbones available in the country.

Urban practicality and safety

Despite the sportiness, the Mio Aerox 155 is a very practical motorcycle. Especially for the urban rider. The starter allows silent starts and is also more lightweight than a conventional starter. 25-litre of under seat storage is good enough to fit an entire full face helmet. It even has plug points for charging devices with lockable compartments up front. The fuel filler resides in the spine which means that the rider does not have to get off the seat at every fuel stop. The instrument display is futuristic and very comprehensive – including a battery charge level, fuel consumption and even a tripmeter. Featuring a 5.8” digital LCD and using a white on blue color scheme, it is very easy to read and interactive.

The seating posture is neutral, and the seat height of 790 mm is very accommodating for shorter riders. The suspension setup is tuned for comfort as well as good driving dynamics. Wide 110/80-14 tubeless tires on the front and 140/70-14 tubeless tires on the rear wheel inspire confidence and the hydraulic disc brake on the front stops the bike with surety. The S variant of the Yamaha takes the feature list even further by incorporating an ABS into the front wheel for even better control over the braking. It also gets the advantage of the switchable stop-start system for better fuel economy and a smart key for the keyless ignition.

The Mio Aerox 155 and its S variant bring a lot to the table. In fact, there is no real direct competition facing it. The Honda Click 150i is too much of a scooter. Maxi scooters like the Yamaha NMax and the Honda PCX are more oriented towards luxury and therefore less versatile. And sporty underbones like the Yamaha Sniper 150 are not as comfortable or practical. This means that the Mio Aerox’ proposition is not just attractive and practical, but unique too. One of the most desirable bikes on the market today.
