Yamaha Mio i125 - Is it a value for money option?
The Philippines market is a very conservative market, especially when it comes to affordable vehicles. In the two-wheeler segment too, affordable mopeds and scooters have been highly popular. Keeping in-line with the trend, Yamaha has managed to bring quite a few for the prospective buyers.
The Yamaha Mio i125 is one such moped that has taken on the budget two-wheeler segment by storm. With a starting price of Php 71,900 for the Mio i125 and Php 75,900 for the Mio i125S, it is definitely one of the best options to choose from in its class.

Are there any direct competitors of the Yamaha Mio i125?
The Yamaha Mio i125 is not the only 125cc moped scooter in the Philippines market, there are many more. Some of the most noteworthy competitors (or alternatives) are Honda Click 125i, Honda BeAT and Suzuki Skydrive Sport.
Honda Click 125i
The Honda Click 125i is more or less a direct competitor of the Yamaha Mio i125. It is priced almost in the same range and has a similar displacement engine. However, the Honda moped costs around PHP 5,000 more than the Yamaha, which might have a huge say in such a conservative market.
Having said that, Honda Click 125i is way too powerful over the Yamaha moped. To get things into perspective, the Honda model uses a similar 125cc engine, which, however, produces 11.2 PS of power 8,500 RPM and 10.8 Nm of torque at 5,000 RPM. On the other hand, the Yamaha Mio i125 specs sheet tells it produces 9.5 PS of power and 9.6 Nm of torque from a similar capacity engine.
Honda BeAT
The Honda BeAT is a slightly more affordable version of the Yamaha Mio i125. However, despite being priced at Php 66,900, there is one major drawback in this model. It is powered by a 110cc engine, which means there is a dip in the power figure. But since the price is just on the right balance, the slight lack of power does not hurt as much.
The 110cc, air-cooled engine is capable of producing 8.6 PS and a peak torque of 9.21 Nm. Though the torque delivery is quite up to the mark, the lack of power makes it slightly inferior to the Yamaha model.
Suzuki Skydrive Sport
The Suzuki Skydrive Sport is another very efficient underbone moped from a Japanese giant. It is nicely built and is very sharp and rugged all across. It is available in peppy colours so as to suit both male and female riders.
If any buyer is confused between the Suzuki Skydrive Sport and Yamaha Mio i125, the former is a good choice to go for. Priced at around Php 67,900, the Suzuki model is just the right one. It is powered by a 113cc, air-cooled engine that produces 9 PS of power and 8.5 Nm of torque. It belongs to just the right price range, with an appropriately powerful engine, to compete neck-to-neck with Yamaha Mio i125.

Yamaha Mio i125: Is it worth the price?
Design
The Yamaha Mio i125 is a very sharp-looking moped-cum-scooter. There is a good number of edges and cuts all across the body panels. The rear end holds attractive-looking grab rails behind the seat, something that enhances the practicality and design.
The moped has a very manageable seat height of 750 mm, which is convenient for people of all height. Moreover, the two-wheeler is very light as the standard model weighs 92 kilograms, while the higher model weighs 2 kilograms more.
The front wheel is suspended over telescopic forks, while the rear gets standard swingarms. 14-inch wheels are standard, where the front tyre measures 70-section, while the rear is slightly thicker at 80-section.
Key features
There are a few key features in the Yamaha Mio i125 that manages to impress one and all. To start off with, there is:
- Engine stop-start, which ensures better efficiency of the engine and low fuel consumption
- Integrated key shutter and answer-back key system, which is the latest in Anti-Theft technology
- Reflector graphics, to ensure that style meets safety too
Engine
The Yamaha Mio i125 is powered by a 125cc, 2-valve engine, which gets the natural air-cooling setup. The maximum power produced by the engine is 9.5 PS at 8,000 RPM, while the peak torque is around 9.6 Nm, which comes at 5,500 RPM.
All of the produced power is channelled to the wheel via a V-belt automatic transmission gearbox, which is quite smooth and efficient at the same time. The fuel-injection system ensures great fuel delivery and zero stalling, even during winters.
Summing up
The Yamaha Mio i125 is quite an amazing underbone moped in the Philippines market. It is the perfect combination of efficiency, good specifications and affordable price tag. And though the Honda Click 125i is a more powerful two-wheeler in the segment, the higher price tag won’t help the prospective buyers much.
On the other hand, the Honda BeAT and Suzuki Skydrive Sport are 110cc mopeds but have competitive specifications at affordable prices. Hence, if you are looking for 125cc options, the Yamaha Mio i125 is a decent option. However, drifting to a lower price bracket would mean you will get hold of decent power, that too at a much lower price ask.
