BYD T3 Review 2024

The BYD T3 is the only electric commercial vehicle sold by the Chinese automaker in the Philippines. The simple-looking and bare-basic BYD T3 is aimed at those commercial vehicle buyers who are looking out for an economical option for intra-city transfer of goods and packages from point A to point B. The BYD T3 is being offered in the Philippines in a single variant, which is available in two colour options of white and yellow.

BYD T3 Interior & Features

For a commercial vehicle, the BYD T3 gets a very appealing dashboard design, which appears very much car-like. However, what can be an issue for some is the all-grey finish for the cabin, which makes it look dull. The cabin quality is also inconsistent in some places.

The driver’s cockpit of the BYD T3 looks decent with a four-spoke steering wheel, which has silver touches on its spokes and gets audio and Bluetooth controls on it. The all-analog instrument console with a MID unit in the middle looks fairly decent too. The centre console of the cabin of the T3 looks appealing with its slanted vertical layout, the vertical side edges of which are finished in a theme of silver. The 2-DIN audio system and switches for automatic climate control are positioned vertically, while the lower centre console forms the base of the transmission lever. The side edges of the dashboard here get AC vents and bottle holders below them.

T3 Exterior

The first glance of the BYD T3 might confuse many for a renowned Japanese commercial van, which is one of the most popular offerings in the American and European vehicle markets. However, there are some design highlights, which try to give the BYD T3 its own identity.

The front fascia of the BYD T3 has a closed stretched V-shaped grille at the front, which is finished in a contrasting shade of silver and is divided into three components. The central part wears the BYD logo, while the other two parts adjacent to it have a perforated design. The side edges of the BYD T3 have wing-shaped clear lens halogen headlamps, which also come integrated with clear lens turn indicators within them. The front bumper of the BYD T3 has triangular housings on its sides, which come fitted with fog lamps and daytime running LEDs below them.

The side profile of the BYD T3 looks very much similar to the certain Japanese commercial van, which can be sensed in the way its front window panels and its waistline look like. To make it look not too basic, the BYD T3 gets body-colored door handles and rearview mirrors and ride on grey alloy wheels. Conventionally, the T3 gets sliding rear doors and closed window panels, which are painted in body colour too. At the back, the BYD T3 gets a simplistic look with split opening rear doors, vertically aligned tail lamps on the side edges of the rear door, and a body-colored rear bumper.

BYD T3 Ride & Handling

The BYD T3 is a boxy-looking vehicle, which is designed just for basic intra-city runs. It is not a driver-oriented vehicle, with its suspension setup decently tuned to make those short rides decently comfortable. The T3 rides on big 16-inch wheels, though its boxy design gives it a fair amount of body roll.

T3 Engine & Fuel Consumption

The BYD T3 sources its power from a 70 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous AC motor, which is mounted on the front axle of the electric MPV, thus giving it a front-wheel-drive configuration. This electric motor churns out a maximum torque output of 100 Nm and gives a top speed of 100 kmph to the T3. The 50.3 kWh lithium-ion iron phosphate battery of the BYD T3 offers a maximum driving range of 300 km, which is decent enough for short trips within city peripherals.

BYD T3 Braking & Safety

Given its bare-basic appeal, the safety equipment list of the BYD T3 is restricted just to having dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and electronic parking brake.

T3 Verdict

The BYD T3 is not a very aspirational product in terms of technology and design, but it covers the basics of a regular electric commercial vehicle pretty effectively. The car-like cabin and decent range make it a good vehicle for urban usage to ferry goods from one place to another.
