This has made the car more spacious with an airy cabin.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax is equipped with a turbocharged, three-cylinder, 1.2-liter petrol engine that produces 137PS maximum power at 5,000rpm and 220Nm peak torque at 4,000rpm. The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It’s the same powertrain that hauls the Trailblazer. The design of the new-generation Trax crossover is inspired by the midsized Chevrolet Blazer. The engine isn’t the most powerful in its class but still does the job decently well. It provides adequate power for daily commuting and highway driving. The transmission is seamless and offers a smooth shift. It’s responsive to driver commands. The engine itself comes with Chevrolet’s e-turbo technology that minimizes response lag. The powertrain is peppy and eager to rev. It lends the 2024 Chevrolet Trax a fun-to-drive character. Young buyers will love the car. GM should think of adding paddle shifters in the next upgrade.

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Trax available in diesel?

No. The car is available with a 1.2-liter petrol engine option only. 

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax RS is a well-equipped car in terms of safety apparatus and driver-assist features. The car comes with antilock braking, engine immobilizer, security alarm, stability control, speed-sensing electronic door locks, lane departure warning system, and child seat anchors. Absence of a blind-spot detection system is a major miss. That’s because the Chevrolet Trax doesn’t have a rear camera. GM should add it in the Trax’s next upgrade as the blind-spot detection system is slowly becoming a part of standard equipment in the automobile industry. But the backup camera displays useful information like distance from the vehicle in front. It also detects pedestrians.

The new Chevrolet Trax is yet to be tested by the ASEAN NCAP.

Driver and front passenger airbags, side airbags, and curtain airbags are standard across all variants. 

How many cameras does the 2024 Chevrolet Trax?

Value for money

Price of the 2024 Chevrolet Trax starts at ₱1.794 million for the entry-level model. The RS trim has a starting price of ₱1.949 million. The car itself is a huge improvement from its earlier version. It’s spacious, offers nice handling, and comes with a decent set of equipment. There are better equipped compact crossovers than the Trax and are priced lower. Buyers not much worried about fuel economy but looking for a comfortable ride, can zero in on the Chevrolet Trax.

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax comes with a warranty of five years or 100,000km, whichever is earlier. The warranty can be extended at the option of the manufacturer. Chevrolet is also offering 24x7 roadside assistance on the Trax.

2024 Chevrolet Trax vs Foton Toplander

The Foto Toplander isn’t a direct competitor of the 2024 Chevrolet Trax at least in terms of specs. The seven-seater Toplander is hauled by a 2.8-liter diesel engine and is more powerful than the Trax. The Toplander is one of the most affordably priced cars in the Philippines SUV segment. It has a starting price of ₱1.388 million, making the car less expensive than the Chevrolet Trax.   

2024 Chevrolet Trax vs Ssangyong Korando

The Ssangyong Korando is a spacious car that boasts of a large cabin and bold styling in the Philippines compact crossover segment. While the fit and finish should have been better, the Korano is aggressively priced at ₱1.29 million, much lower than the new-generation Chevrolet Trax. Both cars are five-seater, and have huge cabin space. But the Korando is equipped with a 1.6-liter diesel engine which is more powerful than the Trax. The Korando’s build quality is good. Ssangyong’s service network is limited.

The Jeep Renegade is widely considered the benchmark in the compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment. It’s one of most affordably priced Jeep vehicles in whichever market it’s sold. The Renegade is immediately recognizable because of its boxy design and aggressive styling. The car comes with a feature-rich cabin and offers a very stable ride quality. The interior is premium. Like the 2024 Chevrolet Trax, the Jeep Renegade is a five-passenger car. The turbocharged, 1.4-liter petrol engine is among the most powerful. With a starting price of ₱1.49 million, the Jeep Renegade is more affordable than the Trax.   

Is the 2024 Chevrolet Trax worth buying?

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax manages to tick all the right boxes that it missed out with the first-generation model. On road, the car is expected to please most buyers with its comfort-focused setup. The ride refinement is surprisingly good and much improved from the previous mode. The suspension system is nicely balanced and absorbs almost all bumps and potholes. Handling is easy and fuss-free but the car does have a body roll while turning corners on a twisty road. On urban roads, the Trax is among the most capable cars in its class. The driving position is comfortable and there’s ample space on the rear seat. Considering all these factors, the 2024 Chevrolet Trax is definitely worthy of buying.
