GWM Haval Jolion

The GWM Haval Jolion feels impactful with its interior, which looks minimalist but very premium and tech-laden. Inspired by the interior of the larger Haval H6 SUV, the cabin of the GWM Haval Jolion carries a dual-tone black and beige theme, with the contrast copper inserts on the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel and transmission lever further enhancing the beauty of the cabin.

Like the larger Haval H6, the cabin of the GWM Haval Jolion features a Y-themed tilt-adjustable steering wheel, which has a 7-inch full-TFT instrument console sitting behind it within a binnacle covered from the top. The top of the centre console is dominated by a large 12.3-inch rectangular infotainment system, while the middle layer of the dashboard has a wide and slanted theme finished in soft-touch leather.

The lower centre console has an almost horizontal panel, which accommodates the transmission knob and electronic parking brake switch while having sleek AC vents above them. In addition to the features mentioned above, the GWM Haval Jolion also comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof, powered driver’s seat, wireless charger, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents and a 6-speaker audio system.

For its positioning as a premium compact SUV, the GWM Haval Jolion has a smart road presence, with a few design elements which make it look imposing, especially in the higher-spec variants. The GWM Haval Jolion takes a bit of inspiration from the more premium SUVs from the GWM’s global lineup, making it look in line with other larger SUVs.

The front profile of the GWM Haval Jolion has an imposing-looking hexagonal grille, which has dark chrome surrounds and studded inserts within the grille. The sides of the front fascia feature the large and swanky-looking 7-shaped headlamp clusters. These headlamps come integrated with all-LED headlamps and a part of daytime running LEDs in the upper wing-like housing and the remaining part of the LED DRLs flowing downwards in the lower housing, which is finished in a gloss black theme and also have air curtains within them.

The well-proportioned side profile of the GWM Haval Jolion has a nicely lifted stance of a traditional SUV, further enhanced by the high ground clearance and large 18-inch machined alloy wheels. The premium essence of the side profile of the SUV is assured by the full chrome finish for the window surrounds and an additional chrome strip on the lower part of the door panels, serving as door-side mouldings.

At the back, the GWM Haval Jolion looks equally dramatic as it is at the front, with a rakish rear windscreen with aerodynamic curtains to its sides and T-shaped combination tail lamps with attractive-looking LED inserts within them. Even the lower part of the rear profile looks premium with a long chrome strip stretching across the width of the rear bumper, further engulfing the faux exhaust ports on the corners.

The top-spec HEV DHT Supreme variant of the GWM Haval Jolion has been offered with four driving modes – standard, sport, eco and snow, all of which offer driving experiences and power delivery different from each other. The GWM Haval Jolion feels sure-footed with a plush suspension setup on offer, though the steering feedback could have been better at higher speeds, as it feels too light and artificial.

There are two distinguished powertrain options offered in the GWM Haval Jolion. The DCT Plus, DCT Max and DCT Supreme variants have a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under their hood mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which churns out 141 PS of maximum power and 220 Nm of maximum torque. The top-spec HEV DHT Supreme variant has a combination of a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and an electric motor, which claims a maximum power output of 186 PS and a maximum torque output of 375 Nm, while paired to an electronically-controlled CVT.

The GWM Haval Jolion is loaded to the brim with all the possible modern safety features a premium compact SUV can come equipped with. It gets a driver fatigue monitoring system, event data recorder, six airbags, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, ABS with EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control, hill descent control, hill start assist, roll movement intervention, secondary collision mitigation, traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, reverse parking sensors and rear camera. The long suite of ADAS features also has adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind spot detection, cross traffic alert and brake, forward collision warning, intelligent cornering control, lane centre keeping assist, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, lane change assist, rear collision warning, traffic jam assist and emergency lane keeping assist.

For all of its features and premium appeal inside-out, the GWM Haval Jolion makes up a great option for first-time car buyers. The powertrain options are impressive, especially the HEV variant, which offers class-leading fuel efficiency.
