Honda City Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
The Honda City is an all-time bestselling car from the Japanese automobile major. It’s also Honda’s first vehicle in the Philippines subcompact sedan segment. Internationally, the car is now in its seventh generation, while in Philippines, it’s in the fifth. The Honda City has won praise for striking a perfect balance of practicality and premium bits. It’s also one of the most versatile and affordable sedans, in whichever country it’s sold.
The fifth-generation Honda city had its Philippines launch in October 2020. A facelift version of the car was launched in July, 2023. Changes to the updated model were mostly cosmetic. The list of equipment was updated. But the biggest update has been the addition of Honda Sensing technology. It’s a high-performance, wide-angle front camera with a far-reaching detection system that scans the road and alerts the driver to reduce risk of accidents. It offers a safer driving experience. All versions of the Honda City, S, V, and RS and the newly launched model below the S trim, called the E version, are now equipped with Honda Sensing.
What are the color options available for the 2023 Honda City?
The car is available in Modern Steel Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Taffeta White, Platinum White Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, and Ignite Red color options. The Honda city doesn’t offer any dual-color option.
Honda City Interior & Features
The 2023 Honda City has one of the most tasteful cabins in the entry-level, compact sedan segment. Honda has preferred to go with a more minimalist look. Hard plastics have been wisely used to keep the production cost low, while not affecting the cabin’s fit and finish. The cabin comes with three different color choices. The E and S models get a black-only theme. The all-black look continues with the rest of the car. Even the door cards get an all-black treatment with no contrasting elements. The V model has a black-silver theme while the RS trim gets a black-red treatment.
The 2023 Honda City E gets all-fabric seats. These are nice and comfortable even for long trips. All models of the Honda City get height adjustable seats. A fabric back-pocket is located behind the two front seats to keep knick-knacks.
The Honda City has always offered the maximum space among all compact sedans and the 2023 version continues with the legacy. All five passengers can travel in the maximum possible comfort offered in any car in this segment. There’s enough legroom and shoulder-room on the rear seat for three passengers to travel comfortably. The transmission channel doesn’t impede into the comfort. But like most cars, the two front seats are the most comfortable. All seats have great back support.
The cabin itself is large and airy. The large windows make the interior more spacious. Some engine noise does enter the cabin. The sound insulation should have been better. But that doesn’t interfere with the travelling comfort.
Passenger and boot space
The 2023 Honda City is spacious and offers a nice travelling experience. The rear seat has enough space to accommodate three adults. The air-conditioning system does its job well. But there are no rear air vents and it does take some time for the car to cool. The semi-independent suspension offers a balanced ride. Bumps and potholes are rarely felt inside the cabin.
The car comes with a 536-liter boot space which is among the biggest in its segment.
Comfort and entertainment
The 2023 Honda City comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system for its V CVT, S CVT, and the RS CVT models. The entry-level E trim comes with a 2-DIN audio system. Most compact sedans these days come with touchscreen infotainment across all models and Honda should look into it.
City Exterior
The Honda City has always been a good looking car and the fifth-generation model looks more sleek and dynamic. Honda has sculpted the car’s front to match the design scheme of its bigger siblings like the Accord and Civic. The 2023 Honda City E comes with halogen projector headlights. Full LEDs are reserved for the RS trim only. The E model gets a chrome-finished front grille. The door mirrors come in their body colors.
Overall, the 2023 Honda City’s exterior gets a minor design update. The enhancements primarily focus on the grille, bumper, wheel design and adding more color options. The front bumpers now sport a smoother appearance. The grille seems to be inspired by the all-new Honda Civic. The grille’s pattern has been updated. The grille itself appears larger. That may be because of the effect forged by implementing a slimmer chrome trim. The rear bumper gets sharper corners that comes with a diffuser. It lends the car a more stylish and pronounced look.
What are the dimensions of the 2023 Honda City?
The Japanese compact sedan measures 4,580mm in length, 1,748mm in breadth, and 1,467mm in height. The wheelbase is of 2,600mm.
What is the ground clearance of the 2023 Honda City?
The car has a ground clearance of 134mm. The low ground clearance leads to a well-balanced ride and easier entry and exit for passengers.
Honda City Mileage Running Cost
The 2023 Honda City returns an average fuel economy of 8kmpl on city roads with start-and-stop traffic. On highways, the fuel economy was more than impressive at 20kmpl.
What is the fuel tank capacity of the 2023 Suzuki Honda City?
The car has a 40-liter fuel tank.
City Ride & Handling
The 2023 Honda City is one of the best driving cars in its segment. It turns corners easily with a slight twist of the steering. The engine and transmission works in union. Transmission change is seamless. The car is targeted at urban buyers and in-city performance of the Honda City is great. The car merges well in traffic. On the highway, the 2023 Honda City returns a smooth drive. The driver’s position offers a nice view of the road. The engine revs quickly but the Honda City isn’t for thrill seekers and speed fanatics.
Are any other wheel options available?
The V and top-level RS trims run on 16-inch wheels. The latter comes with a special RS design.
Honda City Engine & Fuel Consumption
The fifth-generation Honda City is mounted on the company’s Global Small Car Platform (GSCP). It retains the earlier generation’s unibody and suspension system. The 2023 Honda City comes with MacPherson front struts and a torsion beam at the back. Honda claims that it has fine-tuned the suspension to make the entry-level sedan easier to drive.
The new Honda City E is hauled by a turbocharged, four-cylinder, 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces 119PS maximum power at 6,600rpm and 145Nm peak torque at 4,300rpm. The motor is mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).The 2023 Honda City retains the ventilated disc brakes from its earlier version. The rear wheels have drum brakes. The hand brake is also retained from the previous model. The E trim rolls on 15-inch steel wheels. What’s interesting is that the spare tire is of a space-saver type. It helps the vehicle to reduce weight while keeping the car’s dimension to a small size.
Is the 2023 Honda City available in diesel?
No. The car is available only with a 1.5-liter petrol engine option
City Braking & Safety
All variants of the compact sedan comes with Honda’s Sensing technology. The suite includes an impressive list of driver-assist and safety equipment like G-CON body structure, hill-start assist, vehicle stability control, antilock braking, adjustable three-point seatbelts at the front, emergency stop signal, three three-point ELR seatbelts on the rear seat, sped sensing automatic door lock, seatbelt reminder for driver and front passenger, child seat anchor, child safety lock, and engine immobilizer. All these features are standard across all trims. The 2023 update further adds collision mitigation braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist system, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, automatic high beam, lead-car departure notification. Some of these features may vary according to the trim.
The Honda City has bagged the highest five-point award in the ASEAN NCAP. It’s one of the safest cars in its class.
How many airbags does the 2023 Honda City have?
Driver and front passenger airbags and side airbags are standard across all variants. Only the RS trim with side curtain airbags for extra safety.
How many cameras does the 2023 Suzuki S-Presso have?
The subcompact hatchback comes with a wide-angle front camera as part of the Honda Sensing suite. The lack of a reverse parking camera is a sore omission in an otherwise nicely equipped car.
Honda City Verdict
