Sedan Cars For Sale in the Philippines
Sedans are one of the oldest and most widely accepted car body styles across the world. The sedans usually have a four-door layout with a separate trunk behind the rear doors, which makes them more spacious than any other body style among cars. The separate trunk at the back allows carrying additional luggage while on the move, apart from carrying 4-5 full-sized adults in the main cabin.
As compared to other mainstream body styles like hatchbacks and SUVs, sedans offer a lower ground clearance, which gives them good driving dynamics with a planted feel to the road. The connection between a sedan and the surface on which it is being driven is the best among mainstream body styles. A modern sedan has a monocoque construction for its chassis and independent suspension, which enhances its driving appeal and ride quality even more.
Market Overview in the Philippines
The Philippines car market has always been dominated by sedans, as they maintain a perfect balance as a family car and a mode of status symbol. Most of the car buyers in the Philippines belong to the budget car audience, who want a compact or midsize car which is economical to run, yet doesn’t compromise on comfort, driving dynamics and visual appeal.
While the world is moving toward SUVs, with more buyers now inclined towards SUVs, the sedans still hold the ground in the total volumes of carmakers in the Philippines. Almost all the mainstream carmakers in the country, including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, MG, Suzuki, Mazda, Chevrolet and Mitsubishi haven’t given up on sedans yet, and are still banking on them heavily for their monthly sales.
Recently Launched Sedan Cars in the Philippines
As we mentioned before, the carmakers in the Philippines are focusing more on SUVs and crossovers. But here are some sedans that have recently hit the market and are showing that there is still tremendous potential for sedans in the country:
Subaru WR-X
Want a proper sports sedan to compensate your adrenaline rush? Subaru has come up with one, the all-new WRX. The new Subaru WRX benefits from the Japanese carmaker’s rich heritage in rally racing, and claims to be one of the best driver’s cars in the market right now. With a stiffened chassis and a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine for a spirited driving experience, the 2022 Subaru WR-X claims to be a proper five-seater passenger sedan with an incredible amount of space and features on board.
Toyota Corolla Altis GR-S
While the Corolla Altis is already a volume churner for Toyota, the Japanese car giant launched a performance-oriented variant of the sedan. Named Toyota Corolla Altis GR-S, the new sedan gets a list of cosmetic add-ons in and out, which makes it look much sportier than the vanilla version of the sedan. The changes include a sporty body kit with different front and rear bumpers, side skirts, piano black finish for door handles and mirrors, GR badges on seat headrests and instrument console graphics, contrast red stitching, and more. However, the 2022 Toyota Corolla GR-S gets the same 1.6-liter 121 PS petrol engine under its hood.
Volvo S90 Hybrid
With this facelift, Volvo has electrified its S90 flagship sedan with ‘Boost Hybrid’ technology. This new technology has been made available in its entire range of sedans and SUVs, and includes a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 48V mild-hybrid system. Apart from this rejuvenated powertrain, the 2022 Volvo S90 Hybrid gets a host of exterior tweaks and feature additions on the inside.
Nissan Almera
Nissan has replaced the aging previous generation Almera with an all-new generation model that was already available overseas. Sharing its mechanical underpinnings and much of the front design and cabin with the Micra hatchback, the 2022 Nissan Almera looks much swankier and feature-equipped than ever before. The 2022 Almera is available in four variants - 1.0L El Turbo MT, 1.0L BE Turbo MT, 1.0L VE Turbo CVT, and 1.0L VL Turbo N-Sport CVT.
Mitsubishi Mirage G4 facelift
The facelifted 2022 Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is a fresher and better-equipped car than its previous version, which of late had become one of the most dated-looking offerings in the market. The sedan has now got a few feel-good features like projector headlamps, daytime running LEDs, a modern touchscreen infotainment system, a push start-stop button, and automatic climate control. The main powertrain option continues to be the 1.2-litre 78 PS petrol engine.
Popular Sedan Cars of 2022
While the flow of sales of sedans is currently trailing that of the SUVs, the following sedans have managed to be decent sellers in the market right now:
Toyota Vios
The Toyota Vios has always ranked as one of the best-selling cars in the Philippines and is still going strong in the market with its current avatar. The facelifted 2022 Toyota Vios, which was launched in 2021, gets a slew of variants, all of which differ based on engines, but get the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated 107 PS petrol engine across the lineup.
Honda City
Honda’s ever-popular City is a runaway success even in its fifth-generation avatar, which is the longest ever version in the entire history of City ever. The new Honda City is more in line with its bigger siblings, the Civic and the Accord, which is evident in its sleeker design. There are two engine options for the 2022 Honda City – a mainstream 1.5-liter naturally-aspirated 121 PS petrol engine and a full-hybrid engine in the RS variant employing a 1.5-litre Atkinson petrol engine with a motor and a battery.
Honda Civic
Honda has brought in the eleventh-generation Civic in the Philippines, which is one of the highest volume churners for Honda globally, despite the rising popularity of the SUVs. Compared to the previous-generation Civic, the new model has become sleeker and has lost out on aggression following a more laidback approach. The new 2022 Honda Civic is now available with a 1.5-litre 176 PS turbocharged petrol engine as the standard powertrain across its three-variant lineup.
Suzuki Dzire
After discontinuing the previous versions of both Dzire and Ciaz, Suzuki has brought in a mildly facelifted version of the Dzire in the Philippines. The compact sedan from Suzuki gets a revised front fascia, but the rest of the exterior design, cabin, list of features and engine options continue to be the same as they were before. The only engine option available in the 2022 Suzuki Dzire is a 1.2-litre 82 PS petrol engine, which is available with both manual and AGS transmission options.
Hyundai Accent
The Hyundai Accent is in the Philippines car market for quite some time now and is one of the best sellers from the Korean carmaker in the country. This entry-level compact sedan from Hyundai has decent features and is designed around Hyundai’s old-generation fluidic design language. The 2022 Hyundai Accent also gets potent 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options, which makes it one of the best all-rounder options in its category.
Upcoming Sedan Cars in 2022-23
While the focus of carmakers on sedans is not as aggressive as that on their SUVs and crossovers, they haven’t stopped contemplating sedans at all. A few noteworthy sedans are being planned for the Philippines car market, which includes Honda Accord with the 2.0-litre petrol engine option, the all-new Subaru Impreza, and the Geely Emgrand.
