JMC Vigus

The cabin of the JMC Vigus continues the vibe of simplicity and basicity, with the pickup having a functional-looking layout for the dashboard with only the basic features in their place. The below-average fit and finish levels and lack of many modern-day features feel a lot to be desired in the interior of the JMC Vigus.

The driver’s cockpit of the JMC Vigus looks basic with a four-spoke multi-functional steering wheel with silver spokes and an old-school analogue instrument console with a very functional-looking LCD MID in the middle. The centre layer of the dashboard of the JMC Vigus has a textured finish, with the pickup getting a free-standing 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the middle here. The curved lower centre console has a hexagonal panel having AC vents in it and a trapezoidal panel with the manual climate control buttons below it. The dashboard corners here come with silver-coloured pentagonal AC vents. The pickup also gets other basic features like power windows, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel and 12V sockets at the front and rear.

The JMC Vigus has been positioned as an affordable, basic, and cost-effective pickup truck, which is the reason why it looks very basic when viewed from the outside. While it has the size and road presence of a midsize truck, the JMC Vigus looks cheap with bare-basic design elements, making it purposely look like a functional vehicle.

The front profile of the JMC Vigus has a pinch of boldness in the form of the large-sized octagonal grille with tapered edges and horizontal slats, while also having a large JMC badge in the middle of it. The upper edges of the grille are attached with horizontally-laid headlamps with halogen projectors for the low beam light and halogen bulbs for the high beam. The front bumper here is large and comes with a stretched U-shaped air dam below the grille, which is spread across much of its width.

The JMC Vigus has a very simple-looking side profile, with the pickup having a decently heightened stance, rounded and flared wheel arches and a sharp crease flowing through the door handles in an inclined manner. While the rearview mirrors are body-coloured and come with integrated turn indicators, the door handles here are blacked-out. However, the pickup comes with 16-inch grey-coloured five-spoke alloy wheels. The rear profile of the JMC Vigus looks plain with trapezoidal-shaped, vertically aligned halogen tail lamps.

All the variants and versions of the JMC Vigus have a body-on-frame architecture with a combination of torsion-bar spring-independent suspension at the front and leaf-spring non-independent suspension at the rear. The ride quality and handling feel a bit unsettled at higher speeds, but this suspension setup is capable of carrying heavy loads with ease. The JMC Vigus is also offered with a four-wheel drive system as an option, further enhancing its abilities as a load carrier in adverse terrains.

The petrol version of the JMC Vigus is powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and generates 177 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the diesel version of the pickup has a 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, that delivers 140 PS of power and 315 Nm of torque.

The very basic safety features list of the JMC Vigus includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, an electronic stability program, hill launch assist, tyre pressure monitoring system and reverse parking sensors.

While the equipment list, fit and finish levels and performance of the engines of the JMC Vigus leave some scope for improvement, this Chinese pickup truck is a decent offering as a good load carrier for the price it commands.
