Suzuki Kizashi

Introduction

Suzuki, the revered Japanese brand, is renowned for fitting superlative technology in its vehicles. However the brand got the major popularity for its motorcycles while the car models couldn't enjoy the same respectable reputation. With the vision of shrugging off all the questions raised over its performance, Suzuki introduced its mid-size sedan model Kizashi in 2009. Here “Kizashi” refers to “omen” in Japanese. Unlike the hatchback and 4x4's owned by Suzuki, it is first family saloon which is genuinely fresh and distinct bolstered with front wheel drive and six speed manual transmission.

Engine, Mileage and its variants

The all new Kizashi in Philippines is equipped with the 2.4 litre in-line DOHC VVT technology which is same as Grand Vitara and mated with CVT/ 6 speed manual mode transmission. The VVT motor churns out the power output of 178 hp at 6000 rpm with the peak torque of 230 Nm at 4000 rpm. The linear torque spread is oriented to deliver the exceptional drivability while the engine is responsively smooth, refined and creamy with strong low end grunt. On highways the engine comes on its own and there is plenty of performance for overtaking. The engine effortlessly pulls the vehicle to 100 kmph from halt within 7.8 seconds while catching the top speed of 215 kmph. Variable valve timing control and Multi Point fuel injection system allows it to give better performance with low fuel consumption where it puts the fuel economy of 12.65 kmpl.

Exterior

Kizashi concept was one of the show stopper with its exciting designing cues that made it look gorgeous. Such striking designs were intended to break the conventional conception of lack of adroit in Suzuki cars. The front holds the conventional designs with wire mesh grille along with Suzuki badge which is however less attractive while the double barrel headlamps adds the extra innovation into it. The dynamic lines are crafted to look it more sportier with somewhat increased length while the big wheel arches and tight fitting roof makes it more interesting. The rump is heavily sculpted and possesses the integrated boot spoiler, wrap around taillamps while the chrome exhaust integrated into bumper suits well. The silhouette of the car rests on overall dimensions measuring 4650 mm x 1820 mm x 1480 mm (L x W x H).

Interiors

The new Kizashi is built with the surprisingly best cabin in Suzuki lineup. The comfortable seats and choice of leather upholstery greets you inside while the central console is flat on dual coloured 'V' shaped dashboards which houses dial with chrome rings. The basic layout eases the manipulation while driving without taking your concentration off the drive. The extraordinary craftsmanship is given to every detail of cabin. The instrument panel contains the USB port and power socket which makes it the ideal spot to play songs with portable devices. The less cluttered cabin features the audio control which can be operated easily with soft-touch buttons complementing pleasure while the refreshed ambience can be set in accordance with driver and passenger with automatic dual zone climate conditioner. Giving the enhanced level of pleasure the car is oriented to offer the bootspace of 376 litres which can be extended.

Safety, Braking and Miscellaneous

Kizashi is equipped with MacPherson struts at front and multi link at rear, while then all-round independent suspension is attached with rigid sub frame. Although the handling is not much sharp and responsive but still the body roll is under limits and the good balance between ride and handling is offered. The brakes are equipped with Anti lock brake system which enhances the performance while brake assist function, Hill hold control makes it more efficient. The passive safety is offered with the foot protecting designs, side impact beams and Suzuki's Patented TECT design on body and SRS airbags for dual, side and curtain.

Verdict

The Kizashi is all prepared to compete in the market with the smooth, well performing and efficient engine while the interior is quite comfortable and shows adroitness. The car however does not break any ground and remains far from delivering any exceptional performance.
