The prices of Toyota Wigo in the Philippines start at PHP 609,000 for the base-spec J MT, making it the most affordable car with the Toyota badge to be on sale in the Philippines. The other variants, E CVT and G CVT are priced at PHP 684,000 and PHP 789,000 respectively.

Given that the Toyota Wigo is an entry-level compact car offering, it is well expected that it will miss out on many premium comfort and convenience features that are offered in more expensive compact cars and SUVs. So, it is advisable to go for the top-spec G CVT variant of the Wigo, for it comes equipped with the best features list for the Wigo, which though, is also a bit shorter than expected. It is also not too expensive over the mid-spec E CVT variant, further making it a more value-for-money proposition for the additional features it gets. 

What features does the Toyota Wigo get?

In this second-generation avatar, the Toyota Wigo has become larger and more stylish than ever, with all the hatchback variants offered with LED headlamps as standard. Along with LED headlamps, the Wigo also has LED fog lamps, black grille, body-coloured door handles and rearview mirrors and halogen tail lamps as standard. The 14-inch alloy wheels and rear wiper are common to both mid-spec and top-spec CVT variants, while features, like LED high mount stop lamp, power-adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors with turn indicators and rear spoiler, are limited to the top-spec G CV variant.

Coming to the interior, the Toyota Wigo features black fabric upholstery as standard across all three variants, along with features like foldable rear seats, two speakers, manual AC, analogue instrument console, three cup holders, four bottle holders and all four power windows. The base-spec J MT variant has a 1-DIN audio system, while the other higher variants get an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Both the CVT variants also get audio controls on the steering wheel and keyless entry, though the top-spec G CVT also has a height-adjustable driver’s seat, push start-stop button, digital manual climate control and two additional speakers.

With a length of 3,760mm, a width of 1,665mm and a height of 1,515mm, the second-generation Toyota Wiigo is larger than the first-generation model it replaced. With the growth in size, the cabin space has also increased, with the Wigo now offering better knee room and leg room, which was a concern in the previous-generation model. 

What engine and transmission options are available?

The standard powertrain under the hood of the Toyota Wigo is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, which has been retained from the previous-generation version. Paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox in the base-spec J MT variant and a CVT in the E CVT and G CVT variants, this engine claims a maximum power output of 67 PS and a peak torque output of 89 Nm.

What’s the mileage of the Toyota Wigo?

The fuel efficiency of the Wigo hasn’t been disclosed by Toyota, though the users have reported figures of 12-13 kmpl in city traffic conditions and 19-20 kmpl while driving on highways. With these efficiency figures, the Wigo is the most fuel-efficient petrol-powered vehicle from Toyota in the Philippines.

How safe is the Toyota Wigo?

Being an entry-level offering built to a cost, the Toyota Wigo misses out on several safety features, including the premium ADAS features that can be seen in more premium Toyotas. However, it does get basics like dual front airbags, ABS, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts for child seats and engine immobiliser. Also, while both the CVT variants have reverse parking sensors, the top-spec G CVT also has a reverse camera, security alarm and digital video recorder.

The two colour options standard across the entire variant lineup of the Toyota Wigo are Gray Metallic and Silver Metallic 4. Should you buy the 2024 Toyota Wigo?

The Toyota Wigo is a perfect city car for those who would love to have a compact vehicle for urban usage. While it looks built to a cost with limited features on offer, compact dimensions, and not-so-premium fit and finish levels, the Wigo scores high on practicality with decent space for five people, all essential features, and a frugal and reliable engine which is both easy on the pocket and can live long. 

What are my alternatives?

There are very few entry-level compact hatchbacks that offer the level of excellence of frugal engineering of the Toyota Wigo. These limited number of alternatives to the Toyota Wigo include the Honda Brio, Mitsubishi Mirage, Suzuki S-Presso, Suzuki Celerio, and MG 3. 

Other things to consider

The Toyota Wigo might be a much better and fresher-looking car than its previous-generation model, however, it is still a basic and cost-effective attempt which is purely meant for budget-conscious first-time car buyers. If you are someone who wants the benefits of a compact hatchback but with more premium appeal, there are larger and slightly more powerful alternatives like the Honda City Hatchback, Suzuki Swift, and MG 3. You can even look at some of the compact sedan options like Volkswagen Santana, MG 5, Suzuki Dzire, and Mitsubishi Mirage G4 for a small premium over the Wigo.
