Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST

The Harley Davidson Low Rider S is already a good-looking motorcycle to start with. With that essence, the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST pushes the envelope one step further with its added design bits over the Low Rider S. In that attempt, it looks like a proper cruiser, which is suitable for riders more effectively at higher speeds and with more luggage on board.

At the front, the rounded headlamp of the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST, which is a full LED unit, is surrounded by a heavily-designed fairing. This fairing is curved from the sides and also incorporates sleek air vents within it the side portions. There is an added part-fairing above it, which further enhances the protection against the windblasts at higher speeds. The rounded turn indicators are mounted on the lower edges of either side of the front fairing.

Coming to the side profile, much of the bits here in the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST are shared with the Low Rider S, such as a large fuel tank with a sloping upper edge. It also shares the huge V-twin motor, multi-spoke alloy wheels, and vertically stacked and long dual exhaust pipes on the right side, all of which are finished in a theme of black. The alloy wheels of the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST get a bronze-coloured pin-striping job around them. Other bits shared with the Low Rider S are blacked-out side body panels and a centrally-placed single-piece seat.

Just like the front, the rear profile of the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST also receives an additional design bit over the Low Rider S in the form of side-mounted body-coloured panniers. These panniers are placed on either side of the curved rear fender, which ends up with a halogen tail lamp with rounded turn indicators on either side.

The rider’s cockpit of the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST is quite an interesting view to look at, with a tiny fully-digital instrument console integrated into the middle of the handlebar of the motorcycle. This tiny LCD unit shows a speedometer, fuel gauge, and odometer, and is assisted by a small display panel for warning lights just below it. Ahead of the handlebar, the motorcycle also gets dual speakers attached behind the front fairing for the integrated audio system available in the motorcycle.

Much like its other popular full-sized cruisers, the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST also comes with a suspension setup comprising of upside-down hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. To complement its performance and wind protection at higher speeds, the overall suspension of the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST is tuned on a softer edge for comfortable ride quality, especially over long distances. The motorcycle has dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc brake at the rear.

As expected, the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST shares its four-stroke, air-cooled, V-twin Milwaukee-Eight 117 engine with the Low Rider S. Displacing 1923cc in volume, this engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox and pumps out an impressive torque output of 169 Nm at 3,500 rpm. Harley Davidson claims a maximum fuel economy of 20 kmpl for the Low Rider ST.

Save for a dual-channel ABS, the Harley Davidson Low Rider ST misses out on every other modern riding aid which is available in a motorcycle of its price.

The Harley Davidson Low Rider ST is a potent long-distance cruiser, and the added front fairing, twin rear-mounted panniers, and revised and quirky-looking instrument console add to the appeal of the motorcycle even more.
