The Honda Zoomer-X is one of a kind in the scooter department and outshines all of its competitors. It rivals the Honda BeAT and some others from Yamaha. However, it even costs a lot more premium than others. The stylish scooter has a 108.2cc engine that produces 8.68 hp of power and 9.3 Nm of torque. The tyres are thick (100mm front and 110mm rear), though the small 12-inch wheels might be a concern who like to twist the throttle more often. Honda Zoomer-X Review 2024
Honda’s penchant for creating unique motorcycles has kept it the forefront of innovation. The most recent of these is the small naked motorcycle with a scooter engine concept that was first seen in the Honda Ruckus. Its rugged looks and skeletal design created an immediate fan following. The same format was brought to Malaysia in the form of the Zoomer in 2013. Honda initially gave it a 50 cc engine, only to boost it to a mind boggling 110 cc fuel injected unit. In 2015, Honda went all out and gave the bike niceties like an idle stop system and Honda’s combi braking system. And that is just the tip of all the premium features this oddity of a bike comes equipped with. Selling for a not so cheap Php 93,900, it competes against nearly every sub 200 cc bike out there. Thankfully the Zoomer-X does not find it hard to justify its price.
Honda Zoomer-X Design
You either find it ridiculous or love it to bits. But you can’t deny its uniqueness. First we need to tackle its size. Especially those fat tires. The wheels themselves are 12” cast alloys with 100/90 front and 110/90 rear tires. It is 1840 mm long, 759 mm wide and 1065 mm high with a 1257 mm wheelbase. It is small yes, but pictures do not tend to it justice. In reality it is not as small as you’d think. Then there is the design. The bike looks small because it lacks all the paneling that a normal scooter comes with. Come to think of it, calling it a naked scooter captures its design pretty well. Its designers have admitted that the design is indeed inspired from mecha robots. The missing paneling exposes some of the framing which the bike shows off through its many dual tone funky color options. There are 5 on offer currently, all of which will make you noticeable from miles away. But this bike was never meant for shy people. Other than the modern yet rugged looks, the bike is extremely practical as an urban runabout. If not an out and out commuter. The headlight is now in an octagonal shape with stubby indicators on the side. The chunky upside down front forks make it look even chunkier. The footboard is thick and flat. The rear gets an equally rugged looking grab rail. The rear tire is covered by a tire hugger that helps with carrying the tiny mudguard look. The area under the seat is exposed and see through. The sloping seat opens on its side to expose a storage space. The odd shape of the space, however, restricts its usage. It can, however, fit a full face helmet and is probably not meant for holding anything else. The bike also uses a fully digital display for info readout. Even the numerals on the speedometer seem to be carrying on the theme of chunkiness. The bike screams of its individuality and inspires its customers to individualize their rides even further. No wonder that it supports a thriving customizing scene that is supported by Honda themselves.
Zoomer-X Ride & Handling
The handlebars are high and the seat is low at 765 mm. The seating position afforded then, is upright and oriented towards aiding slow speed maneuverability. The USD front forks and the fat tires do a very good job of absorbing bumps. The 135 mm ground clearance also makes for carefree riding on every kind of road. Still, you’d be hard pressed to take it anywhere else outside of a city. This is no Grom. Ride it comfortably.
Honda Zoomer-X Engine & Fuel Consumption
The engine as you’d expect is an equally tiny 110 cc air-cooled and fuel injected SOHC unit that pushes out 8.81PS at 7500 rpm and 9.3 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. It uses a CVT for added convenience on city roads. Performance can be summarized in two words – not fast. But if you went too fast, people won’t be able to look at your bike. The same engine also finds application in many other Honda bikes and scooter so you probably already know how it performs. The 4.4-litre fuel tank is also reasonable and will last you a long time with the mileage of 53 kmpl.
Zoomer-X Braking & Safety
Braking is sufficiently taken care of with a disc brake on the front and a drum brake on the rear. The bike also comes with Honda’s combi braking system that applies both the front and the rear brakes when the rear brakes are applied.
Honda Zoomer-X Verdict
Nothing will make you stand out as much as this bike on the roads today. At the same time it will also act as your faithful and efficient companion on city roads. If this bike speaks to you, then you are probably already itching to get a ride on it. Don’t hold yourself back on our account.
