Kawasaki launched the GTR 1400 sports tourer back in 2007 and since then, it continued to woo one and all with its sportiness despite being thrown into the pit as a grand tourer. It comes with a powerful engine and features a very aerodynamic design. It is built on the same platform as the ZX-14.
The automaker introduced the bike as a replacement for the smaller GTR1000. A major update was introduced back in 2014. Some of the most highlighting features offered on the two-wheeler are the Kawasaki Advanced Co-Active Braking and Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System.
Kawasaki GTR 1400 Design
The Kawasaki GTR 1400 does not adorn a fully sporty design due to its tourer appearance. The bike comes with dual headlights, which resembles the signature Kawasaki style front profile. A tall windshield is offered to prevent the windblast while cruising at a high speed, while some air vents are provided at the lower section.
The turn indicators are placed perfectly on the fenders (fairing) and just on the top of it, the manufacturer’s moniker has been done. The foot pegs for the rider are center-set that offer more comfort on the ergonomics. It also comes with a single-seat design where pillion comfort is immense.
GTR 1400 Ride & Handling
The Kawasaki GTR 1400 is a powerful beast and is one of the best options to cover up long distance tours without worrying much about any other factors. It comes with the humongous power at a good rev range, so you do not have to twist the throttle a lot to extract the maximum power.
The seat-design is comfortable enough for long-distance riding for the pillion as well as the rider. The two-wheeler features a narrow rider portion at the front so that reaching the ground is easier.
The pillion’s seat is larger compared to the rider’s, which makes adjusting the position while riding easier. It comes with 22 litres of fuel capacity, which makes for a very long riding range. The suspension is handled by inverted forks up front and Uni-Trak at the rear.
Kawasaki GTR 1400 Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Kawasaki GTR 1400 is equipped with a very powerful engine under the hood. The two-wheeler comes with a 1,352cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, in-line four-cylinder engine, which is capable of churning out a maximum of 152.9 horsepower which comes at 8,800 rpm along with a peak torque of 136 Nm at just 6,200 rpm.
A 6-speed manual gearbox does all the transmission duties of the motorcycle. At the time of the maximum power or the peak torque, the rpm indicator on the tacho does not reach a sky-high level and hence, the massive 152.9 hp is delivered at cruiseable throttle response
GTR 1400 Braking & Safety
Coming to the braking department, the Kawasaki GTR 1400 gets dual disc brakes at the front, while the rear wheel is equipped with a single disc. Both of them supports ABS (anti-lock braking system), which means it prevents lock-ups and skidding even in the slippery conditions.
Furthermore, the existing ABS function is accompanied by a K-ACT braking system. The advanced braking system gives the assurance that both the front and rear brakes are activated at the same time. It also ensures that the braking performance will be maximized.
Speaking of the safety equipment, the two-wheeler comes with side reflectors, Engine Check Warning, pass switch, stability control, and traction control. It is equipped with Kawasaki’s Intelligent Proximity Activation Start System or KIPASS. It is a master key system which helps to activate the main switch and steering lock remotely. It is the first time that a bike-maker offers an electronic authorisation system application on a touring model to enhance the convenience of the rider.
Kawasaki GTR 1400 Verdict
The Kawasaki GTR 1400 is priced at around PHP 890,000, which is pretty justifiable and will be a great choice for any bike lover. It rivals against the BMW K 1600 GTL closely.
And given the price, it comes with a plethora of amazing features like the K-ACT, that makes the motorcycle safer, and KIPASS helps to activate the bike’s main switch and steering lock remotely.
