Kymco VISA R Review 2024
Nothing beats the basic underbone when it comes to commuting in the city. And when it comes to underbones, the Honda Wave has everyone beat. No wonder the basic design of the Wave has spawned a generation of clones that often improve upon the design. The Kymco Visa R is one of many such bikes that brings a flair of sportiness to its design. The basic version on sale today under the name of Visa R 110 Spoke Commuter E3, is part of the Active series and therefore benefits from a lot of design touches that make it that much more appealing. Its very competitive price of Php 45900 is arguably another factor. Kymco is a Taiwanese manufacturer that has made long strides in the segment since its early days and should be regarded as separate from more Chinese brands. Which definitely acts as an advantage when you consider its competition form SYM Bonus 110, TVS Neo, any number of MotorStar bikes and the leader of them all, the Honda Wave 110 Alpha. Here is a look at what you can expect from it.

Kymco VISA R Design
Kymco was eyeing the more style-conscious segment of the market and it is easy to see why. The Visa R is stylish to look. While you cannot expect a lot from the overall design, Kymco has done enough to make it stand out. The headlight surround is curvaceous and integrates the diamond-shaped indicators within them. The tail light is similarly a fully integrated unit. The front apron is long and gives decent protection. The seat is flat and curved upwards. There is also a large rack behind the rear seat that is used to mount the factory fitted carrier. This compliments the smaller under seat storage area that is locked on the side. Smaller touches like the red colored rear shock absorber and brake calipers, the gunmetal engine covers and the snazzy graphics on the three color schemes – red, black and blue – give it a stylish edge. Then there are the parts like the rear footpegs, the chain guard, the red-edged petal brake discs and the sporty silencer that give it an air of quality. As the name suggests, the Visa R comes with 17” spoked wheels. The front has a 70/80 tire while the rear comes with a 80/90 tire. There is conventional analog instrumentation, but it does the job. It also includes a gear indicator which is a nice touch. The bike’s dimensions are just as conventional at 1950 mm (L) X 680 mm (W) X 1100 mm (H).
VISA R Ride & Handling
There is a telescopic fork setup in the front and a dual shock absorber setup in the rear. The bike weighs just 97 kg dry which makes it very easy to maneuver. The suspension is a bit on the softer side which does well to absorb bumps but is no the best for taking on corners in any kind of sporty manner. But the bike is comfortable for everyday purposes. As the name suggests, the bike affords an upright seating position that gives it good commuter friendly ergonomics.
Kymco VISA R Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Kymco Visa R is powered by a 107 cc SOHC carbureted and air cooled engine the produces 8 PS of peak power at 7000 rpm and 7.2 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. The engine is mated to a constant mesh 4-speed transmission. It comes with both an electric and a kick starter. The fuel tank has a capacity of 4 L. Performance is you’d expect. The bike reaches 40 kmph in no time and then takes its sweet time to get to its top speed of around 80 kmph. But this bike is not meant for such spirited driving. It is meant to be nippy and zippy and it does both.
VISA R Braking & Safety
There is a wavy petal disc brake on the front with a single piston caliper and a drum brake for the rear.
Kymco VISA R Verdict
For its price, the Kymco Visa R 110 Spoke Commuter E3 is right up there with the best in the segment. It provides a balance of style, performance, comfort, and practicality at an affordable package. Certainly worth a look for anyone in the market for a new cheap underbone.
