What features does the Yamaha Mio Sporty get?

As mentioned above, the Yamaha Mio Sporty is a sporty-looking scooter, which has sharp and slim body panels that accentuate its sporty appeal. The raked and compact front apron and slim-looking body panels of the Yamaha Mio Sporty come adorned with sporty-looking body decals in gloss colour choices, which make the scooter look bold and trendy. The matte colour choices look sober in comparison with those devoid of anybody graphics.

The curvaceous-looking handlebar cowl of the Yamaha Mio Sporty has a wide and curvy-looking halogen headlamp, while the compact front apron of the scooter has a U-shaped panel of lights covering its lower edges. This U-shaped lighting console has clear lens turn indicators integrated into its sides, while the central part is covered by a clear lens reflector. The Yamaha Mio Sporty also comes fitted with silver-finished handlebar levers for the brakes and black-coloured alloy wheels as parts of the standard equipment list.

While moving towards the rear, the Yamaha Mio Sporty has a black-themed slim exhaust pipe, that has a slim chrome shield over it that serves as an ornamental garnish. At the back, the Yamaha Mio Sporty has a simple-looking black-coloured pillion grab rail and halogen illumination for the crown-shaped tail lamp flanked with clear lens turn indicators. In addition to the all-analogue instrument console, which houses a speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer, the Yamaha Mio Sporty also features a decent-sized under-seat storage compartment. 

How spacious is it?

Having a length of 1,820mm, a width of 675mm and a height of 1,050mm, the Yamaha Mio Sporty has a compact size and stance, which is decent enough even for taller riders. Even the floorboard is decently spacious, if not the best-in-class, with the sharper body panels leaving room for the feet and knees of even taller riders. However, the 4.1-litre fuel tank of the Yamaha Mio Sporty feels inadequate, restricting the overall range of the scooter. 

What engine and transmission options are available?

Matching the simplicity of the design of the Yamaha Mio Sporty is its basic four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 114cc engine, which is one of the few carburetted engines on sale for scooters in the market. Like in other Yamaha scooters, this engine is paired with a V-belt transmission and churns out a maximum power output of 7.7 PS and a maximum torque output of 7.2 Nm. 

What’s the mileage of the Yamaha Mio Sporty?

Yamaha hasn’t revealed the official mileage figures of the Mio Sporty, but considering the small-sized and efficiency-tuned nature of the engine, it is one of the most fuel-efficient scooters to be on sale right now. Buyers have reported achieving 50-52 kmpl.

How safe is the Yamaha Mio Sporty?

Yamaha has kept things extremely basic for the Mio Sporty when it comes to safety, with this entry-level scooter missing out on even the basics like ABS, a combined braking system or even a key shutter mechanism for the ignition keyhole. However, despite its humble underpinnings and not-so-spirited performance, the Yamaha Mio Sporty has a disc brake at the front for safe braking.

Positioned as an entry-level scooter in the 110-115cc scooter category, the Yamaha Mio Sporty competes with Honda Beat, Honda Dio, Yamaha Mio Gear, Suzuki Skydrive Sport, Hero Xoom 110 and TVS Dazz. There are two other Asian scooters - Kymco Super 8 150 and Skygo Blink 125, which are priced similarly to the Yamaha Mio Sporty, but have larger-sized engines in comparison. 

Other things to consider

While the Yamaha Mio Sporty scores high on affordability and economy, it does have a fair share of disadvantages, such as a very basic features list and limited under-seat storage space and fuel tank capacity. If you want more value from your scooter, you can consider other 110-125cc entry-level scooters from Yamaha and other Japanese brands. If you want more affordable running costs, you also have the option of looking at entry-level electric scooters, which lack the finesse of the build quality and fit and finish of the Yamaha Mio Sporty.
