A spec check of the Ford Ranger Raptor 2.0L BiTurbo 4x4 AT
The Ford Ranger Raptor was launched in 2018, but is a 2019 model-year vehicle that’s based on the Detroit Automaker’s acclaimed Ranger pickup truck.
After the launch of the Raptor, Ford’s pickup truck segment experienced a 27% increase in sales and made the Ranger their best-selling model to date with 14,759 units sold last year.
That’s 72% better than the nearest Ford model, which was the Everest.
We give the king of the Rangers a spec check to see how it helped boost the sales of Ford’s pickup truck lineup.
Its dimensions at 5,398mm x 2,028mm x 1,873mm make it longer, wider, and taller than any Ranger currently offered by Ford Philippines.
The engine that’s shared with the Ranger Wildtrak also puts out the same output as the Wildtrak 4x4, sending 210hp and 500Nm of torque to the same 10-speed automatic transmission.
One of the unique things about the Raptor is the chassis. It boasts an aluminum double wishbone with Fox Racing shock absorbers with internal bypass dampers and anti-roll bar in front and coil-over shock absorbers with Fox Racing Shocks with internal bypass reservoir dampers and Watt’s link at the rear compared to the coil and leaf springs on the plain Ranger and even the Wildtrak.
It also has a locking rear differential and ventilated disc brakes (front and rear), and electric power-assisted steering.
Light-emitting diode (LED) illumination is standard on the headlamps, taillights, the daytime running lamps, and even the puddle lamps. It comes with rain-sensing wipers, and power-folding and power-adjustable side mirrors with turn indicators.
If you’re setting up for an outdoor affair and need some juice, the Raptor also comes with an auxiliary 12-volt power outlet that can be found in the load box.
Getting in and starting the engine is easy with the smart keyless entry key and the Start/Stop button.
It comes with a leather-wrapped (with contrast stitching, thumb swells, and on-center markers) steering wheel, dual color 4.2-inch cluster screens, dual-zone automatic climate control, a scuff plate, another auxiliary 12-volt power out in the cabin, and a 230-volt inverter in the rear console.
The seat cover is a combo of leather and felt that Ford calls “Raptor Accent.” The front driver seat is eight-way power adjustable, the front passenger seat is manually adjustable, while then rear is bench-type with a center armrest and fold-up function.
Powering the entertainment system is an eight-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is equipped with Bluetooth phone and audio streaming and comes with Sync3 with voice-activated controls. A navigation system comes standard along with two USB ports and six speakers.
When it comes to safety, the Ranger Raptor is as loaded as a Ford pickup truck can get. It has Pre-collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Alert System, Terrain Management System with six modes (Normal, Sport, Grass/Gravel, Mud/Sand, Rock, and Baja), Cruise Control, Electronic Stability Control including Roll-over Mitigation, Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Traction Control, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, six airbags (driver, passenger, side, and curtain), parking sensors, a rearview camera, a volumetric burglar alarm system, and child seat Isofix anchorage points.
