Audi RS 6 Avant: Functionality coupled with supercar performance
Readers of the well-known German publication Auto Motor und Sport acknowledged the all-new 2021 Audi RS 6 Avant for its excellent new design features among full-size models included in the esteemed Autonis Awards.
The award-giving body, in effect, celebrates 25 years of Audi Sport station wagons that combine the efficiency and dynamics of a supercar with the intrinsic convenience and utility of a station wagon.
The launch of the model in the Philippines further reinforces the Audi Sport range here in the country, which includes the spectacular five-cylinder RS 3 Sedan and the RS Q8, the latest lap record holder among the production SUVs at the Nurburgring.
All the newest Audi Sport cars in the country are 2021 models and not updates from last year.
Audi Sport, the high-performance segment of Audi AG, handles the construction and development of the RS models, the R8 supercar among them and included in the models now in the Philippines.
The all-new RS 6 Avant is equipped with a power dome hood, extended side air inlets, and a gloss-black Singleframe grille that defines the aggressive look of the vehicle at the front end.
Features that are distinct to the all-new RS 6 Avant include an RS-specific bumper defined by a gloss-black rear diffuser along with other styling elements, a roof edge spoiler, RS-specific sills with black inserts, and Quattro blisters over the wheel arches. An RS exhaust system with oval tailpipes emphasizes the performance and power of the vehicle.
A 4.0-liter, twin-turbo, V8 TFSI gasoline engine provides tremendous power to the all-new RS 6 Avant. It generates torque of 800Nm and 600 hp, available from 2,050rpm, to provide greater driving pleasure.
The output, which enables the high-performance station wagon to accelerate from standstill to 100kph in just 3.6 seconds and to 200kph in 12 seconds, has a full-bodied distinct V8 sound that can be tuned through the Audi Drive Select system.
Drive Select sees to transmission and engine management, Quattro all-wheel-drive, and steering of the all-new RS 6 Avant.
The engine is also equipped with a mild-hybrid system that allows the all-new RS 6 Avant to sprint for up to 40 seconds when the engine is switched off, as well as for the start/stop operation at speeds reaching 22kph.
The cylinder-on-demand system, which switches off a few cylinders at specific speeds and load, further enhances the efficiency of the engine.
An eight-speed Tiptronic transmission, which is tuned for rapid shifting, delivers the power that the 4.0 TFSI V8 engine generates to the Quattro system.
In turn, the system utilizes a mechanical center differential that sends power to the rear and front axles based on available traction. Up to 70% of the power is distributed to the front, and about 85% to the rear.
Moreover, wheel-selective torque control is responsible for traction assistance while the 22-inch sport alloy wheels covered in high-performance tires ensure excellent contact with the road surface.
In the Philippines, the all-new RS 6 Avant is fitted with the RS Sport Suspension Plus with Dynamic Ride Control system, which incorporates roll stabilization and pitch through the use of three-way adjustable dampers and steel springs to automatically assist you in counteracting the movements of the vehicle’s body.
When it is set in Comfort mode, it guarantees a seamless ride quality. As for the Dynamic program, it brings spectacular driving precision even when you are cornering at high speeds.
Aside from these performance features, the all-new RS 6 Avant features a more spacious interior with improved luggage space. The cabin is equipped with numerous RS 6 and RS emblems, RS sport seats, RS aluminum shift paddles, and a perforated leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel.
The all-digital operating system of the vehicle also features a black-panel style and an “RS Monitor” display that gives details regarding tire pressure, G-force figures, and temperature of the car’s drive components, among others.
Meanwhile, the safety, efficiency, and comfort of the all-new 2021 RS 6 Avant is significantly maintained through its host of driver-assist systems.
