The very first Lexus battery electric vehicle (BEV) has arrived in the Philippines, delivering the benefits of zero-emission, all-electric driving while also utilizing BEVs' potential to revolutionize the driving experience.

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e, although built on an all-new BEV platform, retains all of the superior performance and craftsmanship qualities associated with the brand. Lexus has taken advantage of its deep expertise in vehicle electrification to combine the advantages of a BEV with the essential refinement and driving pleasure that are distinctive to the brand.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e exterior styling

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e is the first Lexus model to be based on the new e-TNGA steel platform, giving the carmaker an opportunity to introduce the next generation of its “Next Chapter” design.

The Lexus RZ’s exterior design reflects its smooth acceleration and powerful torque-filled performance. A BEV Spindle Body replaces Lexus' signature spindle grille. Rather than fulfilling the cooling and exhaust demands of an internal combustion engine, the new front bumper design concentrates on aerodynamic efficiency, optimal proportions, and aesthetics. This style development brings in a new Lexus look as well as a new design approach for BEVs.

On the rear, the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e features a split roof spoiler that contributes to the vehicle’s stable performance. It is also equipped with the signature LED light bar that runs across the width of the vehicle. A new Lexus inscription is embellished on the thin center section of the light bar.

2023 Lexus RS 450e interior features

The cockpit of the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e is a fresh take on the brand’s Tazuna concept, putting the meters, controls, and displays in a position that would only require minimal movement of the driver’s hands and eyes.

The layout of the 14-inch center multimedia display, meters, multi-information display, and head-up display helps keep the driver more focused on the road.

The center console comes with a storage box with a lid that can be opened from left or right so it will be convenient to use for both the driver and the front passenger. It is also equipped with cupholders, USB ports, a 12V power outlet, and a wireless charging tray.

Customers can choose among three interior color combinations: Orage upholstery with black trim and Solis White covering for the interior door shoulders and armrests, Hazel seat coverings with black trim, and Grayscale upholstery with black trim.

The console can be embellished with the new Tsuyasumi ornamentation with a charcoal finish. The effect is created by Lexus’ Takumi craftspeople using advanced film technology.

The cabin of the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e also features an ambient lighting system with 64 colors grouped in 14 different themes to set the right mood in every ride. The color and brightness of each lamp can be adjusted through the center display.

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e also comes standard with a heads-up display that is projected onto the windscreen. The layout can be adjusted and three content versions are available: full, standard, and minimum.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e electric motor, battery

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e features the brand’s new e-Axle that comes with a motor, gearing, and an ECU. Both front and rear e-Axles are being used by the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e, working together with the Direct4 all-wheel drive control system.

The front motor delivers 150kw, while the rear motor produces 80kW. The consumption of the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e is rated at 16.8kWh or 18.7kWh per 100km, depending on the wheel size.

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e comes with a 71.4kWh lithium-ion battery. The variants equipped with 20-inch wheels have a range of around 395km when fully charged, while the range of those with 18-inch wheels is around 435km.

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e comes standard with a 11kW on-board charger. Charging lasts around six hours and 30 minutes when connected to a three-phase power supply, around 10 hours when connected to a one-phase power supply, and around 30 minutes when connected to a DC fast-charging system.

Drivers can also select among five drive modes: Normal, Eco, Sport, Custom, and Range.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e safety features

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e comes standard with the latest version of Lexus Safety System+, which was specially developed for battery electric vehicles.

Among the safety technologies included in the new Lexus Safety System+ are Pre-Collision System, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beam, and Road Sign Assist.

Passive safety features include SRS airbags including a center airbag between the front seats and a new door impact beam and quarter lock pillar design.

Driving is also made easier with advanced assistance features such as Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Rear Camera Detection, Advanced Park, Lexus e-latch with Safe Exit Assist, and Panoramic View Monitor.

2023 Lexus RZ 450e price, colors

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e is priced at P4.828 million. New blue sky-inspired Aether and striking Sonic Copper exterior finishes are available for the Lexus RZ at launch. Other exterior color options include Graphite Black, Sonic Chrome, Sonic Quartz, and Sonic Iridium. The innovative paint method used by the sonic shades compresses metal flakes and pigment particles into extremely thin layers for a deeper, glossier finish and more intense light and shade contrasts.

The Lexus RZ is now offered in a new bi-tone design with a contrast black finish that covers the front of the vehicle's pillars, bonnet, and roof.

The 2023 Lexus RZ 450e ushers in a new era for Lexus BEVs, serving as a step forward towards the “Lexus Electrified” vision that aims to rekindle all customers' genuine passion for driving thrills and expand the brand’s electrified lineup to meet the needs and demands of a wider range of luxury buyers.
