Generation Study of Toyota Avanza
MANILA: Toyota Avanza is a not a new name for the Philippines market, as it has been serving the nation since 2003. Over the years, we have seen it growing and evolving and it's just amazing to see how well it has kept pace with the time and changing tastes and preferences of the people. If we go by the record, Toyota Avanza from the very year of its launch has been sold like hot cupcakes, freshly baked under Toyota's roof, carrying the best of comfort, tech and power flavours.
But over the years with passing time and entering of new market players in the industry, it has been observed that Toyota Avanza is losing its grip on the market and people are forgetting about its glorious past. So, in order to revise its past and showcase its promising future, we are here presenting you the life-cycle of Toyota Avanza.
But before that, it's a good idea to know some interesting facts about Avanza -
1. Toyota Avanza is manufactured by Daihatsu and is sold by both the companies under different names, Xenia and Avanza.
2. Avanza was launched in the year 2003, and in the same year Toyota sold 100,000 units of the MPV.
3. By the year 2013, Toyota Avanza had crossed 1 million sales mark.
4. In China, Avanza is sold under the name FAW-Jilin Senya S80 and it was a product of Daihatsu and FAW collaboration.
5. In 2008, Toyota launched a five-seater Avanza in the Philippines. The non-third seater Avanza mainly served as taxicabs.
Generations of Toyota Avanza -
First Generation - (2003 to 2011)
It was in the year 2006 that Toyota graced the Philippines market with the all-new Avanza. Back then the car was available in two trim options - J and G. The main difference between the two was that of the engine, J variant was powered by a 1.3L engine tuned with 5-speed manual gearbox, where else G trim featured a 1.5L mill that was coupled with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. It was during this generation when Toyota came up with the five-seater Avanza, we mentioned earlier. It was in the same year that Toyota gave Avanza its first mid-cycle facelift. The revamped version came with revisions like new cabin color tone and new aerodynamic prone ceiling.
Second Generation (2011 -2015)
Toyota introduced the on 13th January 2012 in the Philippines. The all-new Avanza looked way better than its predecessor and carried some unseen designing traits like a smoother and wider bumper, restyled headlight, new set of alloy wheels, sharp cuts across the body length and more. Unlike the previous version, this time, Avanza was offered in three trim levels - J, E and G. First two variants were powered by a 1.3L mill while the top trim housed a 1.5L engine.
Third Generation - (2015 - Present)
Recently, Toyota gifted the Philippines auto market the latest version of Avanza, the best-selling compact MPV till date. On every front, exterior, interior and power it is way ahead of its previous two versions. To the list of its advancements are included features like redesigned headlamps, lower grill, revamped bumper and 15-inch alloy wheels. The all-new Avanza is powered by either a 1.5L or 1.3L Dual VVT-i in-line 4-CYL 16V DOHC mill. To the list of its additional attributes are present features like - more power, refined handling, low-level of NVH and impressive fuel economy.
