The front bumper comes with a wide air dam with L-shaped chrome accents and chrome slats on the sides.
From the side, the G50 Plus exudes its boxy profile with 17-inch machined alloy wheels (in top-variant), smooth front fender curves, angular window panels, door-mounted mirrors, and chrome surrounds. A boxy stance is maintained by the rear with an upright windscreen, a hexagonal license plate housing, and LED combination tail lamps, offering a stylish and robust look.
The MG G50 Plus boasts an all-black cabin having silver accents. It is inspired by Maxus models such as the D90. MG G50 Plus Review 2024
Abhishek Katariya says
Essentially a badge-engineered version of the Maxus G50 from China, the MG G50 Plus is a premium compact MPV with a slightly tweaked exterior while having the same interior and mechanicals as the Maxus G50. In the Philippines, the MG G50 Plus is imported in three variants—Standard, Comfort, and Lux. The MPV's colour options include Moon White, Meteorite Black, Blade Silver, Andes Grey, and Water Blue.
MG G50 Plus Interior & Features
The MG G50 Plus's all-black cabin shares some bits with other Maxus offerings like the Maxus D90, such as the full-TFT instrument console with triangular side gauges and a large 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system placed at the top of the centre console. This all-black cabin has contrast silver accents on the centre console and door pads.
Below the infotainment system, the MG G50 Plus also has wide hexagonal AC vents with buttons for the automatic climate control below. The three-row cabin of the MG G50 Plus has impressive space levels, with the second row having a 60:40 split arrangement and the third row having a 50:50 split arrangement.
The MG G50 Plus's cabin might not be too modern or feature-rich. Still, it gets decent essentials like roof-mounted rear AC vents, bottle holders in door panels, an engine push start-stop button, a 6-speaker audio system, and a tilt-adjustable steering wheel with audio and Bluetooth controls.
G50 Plus Exterior
From a distance, the MG G50 Plus looks exactly the same as its donor vehicle, the Maxus G50. However, a closer inspection reveals the differences between the two MPVs, with the MG G50 Plus having a different and bolder-looking front profile and minor tweaks to the tail lamps and rear bumper.
The slanted bonnet of the MG G50 Plus flows towards the bold-looking front fascia, which comprises slanted and angular LED headlamps with LED DRLs on the upper corners beside the slim and angular upper grille that has twin chrome slats running across its width. The front bumper has a massive air dam with thick chrome slats flowing across the entire width of the bumper, with additional L-shaped chrome garnish panels positioned on the sides.
Moving towards the side, the MG G50 Plus features a boxy look, with smooth curves over the front fenders. In the top-spec variant, the G50 Plus has 17-inch machined alloy wheels, large and angular window panels, door-mounted rearview mirrors, and chrome surrounds for the window panels. The rear profile of the MG G50 Plus also looks boxy, with an almost upright rear windscreen and horizontally laid combination tail lamps with LED inserts. The boot has a hexagonal housing for the license plate.
MG G50 Plus Ride & Handling
Based on a monocoque frame, the MG G50 Plus has a conventional suspension setup of Macpherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. As a comfort-oriented MPV, the overall suspension setup delivers a supple ride quality and feels decently planted at lower and moderate speeds despite its boxy profile. That being said, body roll is prominent at triple-digit speeds, while the steering feels dull and uninspiring.
G50 Plus Engine & Fuel Consumption
All three variants of the MG G50 Plus have the same powertrain combination: a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 181 PS and a maximum torque output of 285 Nm. This engine is refined at lower RPMs and in mid-range, while the performance only feels adequate and not as mind-blowing as how it appear on paper.
MG G50 Plus Braking & Safety
The MG G50 Plus doesn’t come equipped with ADAS features. Still, it covers the basics with all the essential safety features, such as front and side airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, hill start assist, reverse parking sensors, a reverse camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
G50 Plus Verdict
For its price, the MG G50 Plus's decent features, good cabin space, and plush ride quality make it a decent family-oriented MPV that’s high on practicality. The engine has decent refinement and power delivery, while the ride quality feels composed and well-cushioned.
