Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Vs 3-Door: Key Similarities and Differences

As one of the most popular compact sport utility vehicles in the market, the Suzuki Jimny has gained a reputation for its rugged off-road capabilities, compact size, and charmingly boxy design. It is the ideal ride for those who want to tackle rugged terrains while turning heads on the road.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Will the three-door and five-door models of the Suzuki Jimny powered by the same engine?

According to reports, the two Jimny models will be powered by the same K15B 1.5-liter engine.
  • What makes the two Jimny models different in terms of exterior design?

Aside from having more doors for easier entry and exit, the Jimny 5-Door is also expected to come with chrome accents on the grille as well as power-folding side mirrors.
  • Earlier this month, Suzuki Philippines confirmed the arrival of the five-door variant of the Jimny next week, and it is expected to be as well-loved as the original three-door model.

Let’s delve into the possible differences and similarities between the three-door and five-door Suzuki Jimny.

    Dimensions

The three-door Jimny measures 3,650 millimeters (mm) long, 1,645 mm wide, and 1,725 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,250 mm.

On the other hand, the five-door Jimny is reportedly to have an overall length of 3,820 mm, an overall width of 1,645 mm, and an overall height of 1,720 mm. It is also expected to have a longer wheelbase of 2,590 mm.

    Exterior

When it comes to design, the three-door and five-door models share the same DNA. They both boast that iconic boxy shape that instantly screams “adventure” wherever they go. From the round headlights to the square wheel arches, these siblings are unmistakably Jimny.

The main difference between the two models lies in the number of doors, of course. While the three-door Jimny keeps things compact with its single door on each side, the five-door model adds two extra doors for easier access to the rear seats. It was also reported that the five-door variant will feature chrome accents on the grille as well as power-folding side mirrors.

Apart from these distinctions, both models share the same rugged design cues that have made the Jimny a beloved off-road warrior.

    Interior

When it comes to interior space, the five-door Jimny undoubtedly has the advantage. It possibly offers slightly more legroom in the rear, making long road trips more enjoyable.

In terms of seating capacity, both variants can accommodate up to four passengers. However, the five-door version provides a more practical experience, especially if you frequently travel with rear-seat passengers or need that extra space for cargo.

    Performance

Under the hood, both the three-door and five-door Jimny are said to be powered by the same capable K15B 1.5-liter engine, delivering enough power to conquer both city streets and rough terrains.

To note, the three-door Suzuki Jimny churns out up to 103 horsepower and 138 Newton-meters of torque.

When it comes to acceleration and top speed, it is expected that both the three-door and five-door Jimnys offer similar performance.

According to reports, the five-door Jimny will also come with ventilated disc brakes that provide better braking performance than the solid disc brakes of the three-door model.

    Variants and pricing

The three-door Jimny is available in two variants: the GL MT and GLX AT. Pricing ranges from P1.258 million to P1.33 million.

The five-door model is reportedly going to have same variants, with pricing expected to range from P1.558 million to P1.708 million.

    Final thoughts

Whether you prefer the compact agility of the three-door model or the added practicality of the upcoming five-door variant, the Suzuki Jimny has got your back when it comes to conquering off-road terrain. Both models offer their own unique advantages and characteristics.

Whichever variant you choose, you can expect the renowned durability, reliability, and fun-to-drive nature that the Jimny is known for.
