2017 Nissan GT-R Might Receive a Hybrid Powertrain, Says Manufacturer
MANILA: Things aren’t really working in Nissan’s favor as they were battered by allegations from the South Korean environmental ministry for alleged use of defeat devices in their diesel engines. Although Nissan Motors has denied the claims through an official statement, we all know that their reputation has suffered a major setback. But all's not lost as the Japanese are known for their resilience and strong will to overcome all odds. With that been said, it can also be seen as Nissan has floated out fresh details of its next generation Nissan GT-R. With environmental agencies hot on Nissan’s trail, manufacturer has surprised everyone by stating the possibility of a hybrid drivetrain, to be featured on the next generation GT-R.
The possibility of the new eco-friendly drivetrain was made by their chief design officer Mr. Shiro Nakamura, who wanted the new drivetrain to deliver more power but far less emissions. Mr. Nakamura also added that they are also aiming for a high fuel-efficiency that will add a totally new dimension to its race car aesthetic. This might be achieved by combining its current 3.0-litre V6 engine with an electric motor to achieve more than the 690 hp that it is currently capable of. Although he denied the possibility of any significant cosmetic changes to the 2017 GT-R’s design, but he did agree that they might make some changes to the vehicle’s dimensions for better performance.
This news not only comes out as the brand’s answer to all the public uproar, but is also a vicious slap to the South Korean’s claims of their vehicles being a threat to the environment. Coming to the vehicle, Nissan GT-R is not just another car from the company’s fleet. Not only it is one of their most celebrated sports cars since its introduction, but it is the vehicle’s iconicism and fandom that is largely responsible for Nissan’s standing in the global market. This announcement is also being viewed as the company’s attempt to take public attention off their South Korean mishap, and the fuel-economy scandal that their new ally Mitsubishi Motor is involved with. But we believe that everyone should get a chance at redemption and after hearing this news, it seems Nissan is playing their cards right.
