2019 Honda HR-V gears up in a Mugen kit for the GIIAS

MANILA: Mugen, which is a high performance-oriented arm of the Japanese automaker Honda has been releasing some cool kits for various Honda cars of late.  At the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Honda has pulled the wraps off the 2019 HR-V that comes wearing a body kit by Mugen.

Based on the Indonesian-spec 1.5-litre Special Edition of the Honda HR-V, the kitted up SUV carries some deft yet effective and attention-grabbing changes compared to the standard variant. Unlike the other Mugen kits that have provided many Honda cars with an intimidating and muscular appearance, the Mugen kit for the 2019 Honda BR-V is not as expressive.

Upfront, the kit doesn't bring a Mugen badge with a thick silver bar, which has been the case in most of the Mugen kits. The H-emblem retains its position at the front with a thick chrome grille. Moreover, the SUV gets an enhanced and much more sporty look courtesy of the new side skirts, rear spoiler, and front & rear under spoilers. To the kitted up SUV an identity of its own, there are Mugen decals and emblem right below the window line on both the sides.

Another unexpected retention on the Honda HR-V is of the17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. We have seen Mugen kits offering some attractive alloy wheels for Honda cars in the past, but things are a bit different on this occasion. Mugen floor mats and an emblem that resided above the transmission lever are the additions inside of the SUV. The rest of the interior remains more or less the same as on seen on the standard model of SUV.

To no surprise, the changes on the 2019 Honda HR-V are limited to the appearance of the SUV. There are no mechanical changes made whatsoever. Furthermore, the availability of this Mugen kit for the Honda HR-V in the Philippines remains uncertain for now. We should wait for Honda Philippines to make an official announcement.
