2019 Ram 1500 gets a multifunction tailgate

MANILA: Pickup segment has been becoming the hot favourite among the populations. Ever since people started using pickups more like a lifestyle vehicle than a commercial baggage mover, the automakers around the world have started fitting luxurious and convenient features in them as well.

What’s even more surprising is that even some pickups are much more feature-laden than a premium passenger car. Following the suite, Ram has introduced a unique tailgate on their pickup 1500 that serves many purposes.

Dubbed as the “Multifunction Tailgate”, the new tailgate on the 2019 Ram 1500 may appear to be similar to those we have already seen in numerous pickups. However, the tailgate on the Ram 1500 is pretty neat and unique in terms of the features it brings on the table.

For starters, the tailgate on the Ram 1500 not only offers sideways but also the drop-down style opening. Please note that the tailgate has been split into two pieces for better accessibility and more convenience. Helping it open like a door on a car, the tailgate on the pickup has got side-hinges which enable easy loading and unloading.

Open both doors, pen flat, open left and open right are the four different configurations which the tailgate comes along. For easy access, there is also a retractable centre-mounted step board. Talking about door open angles, both the doors can do 88 degrees.

The update on the Ram 1500 does not end at the multifunction tailgate and the pickup also comes equipped with the innovative RamBox cargo management system along with a fully-sprayed bedliner.

The RamBox features waterproof and removable storage bins. In case you can not find a power supply to operate some of your tools, the 2019 Ram 1500 will be at your rescue as it comes with a 115-volt 400-watt power supply socket.

Head of Ram – FCA, Reid Bigland said, ”The Ram Multifunction Tailgate is intuitive to operate, and owners will find it immediately useful. Combined with Ram’s class-exclusive RamBox feature and new tailgate step, we’re taking Ram’s cargo management and storage to the next level”.

All the 2019 Ram 1500 variants will be featuring the multifunction tailgate and the second quarter of 2019 will see the new units hit the showrooms.
