2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport available in PH; starting price Php 4.49 million

MANILA: The new 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport is now available in the Philippines. It gets a refreshed look, inside and out and can be yours for a starting price of Php 4.49 million. So, what can we expect on this new Land Rover offering?

According to Land Rover Design Director and Chief Creative Officer, the “Discovery Sport combines design excellence, engineering integrity and exceptional versatility to create a premium compact SUV.”

The 7-seater compact Land Rover gets a redesigned LED headlights, creased hood, front bumper, and a muted rectangular front grille. At the back are a rear spoiler and a bold Discovery badge occupying almost the entire hatch. Inside the cabin is a bright interior that gives passengers a sense of space. There are a lot of storage solutions for wallets, purses, keys,

phones, and bottle tumblers throughout the vehicles to avoid clutter. But the main surprise for most is the additional seating capacity. According to Land Rover’s chief interior designer Martin Buffery, “There is a surprise with this car, that it has a third row, and from the outside, nobody really expects that.” The seats can also be folded and reconfigured based on your passenger and cargo seats to make room for everyone and everything.

In terms of tech, the Land Rover Discovery Sport features a very modern yet streamlined dashboard. There’s the multi-function steering wheel; fully digital high definition instrument cluster with an optional 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display that displays driving information and safety data and voice recognition system; and the center-mounted infotainment system called Discovery Sport’s Touchscreen that can be upgraded with their Online Pack to enable Wi-Fi connectivity.

The infotainment system is partnered with a Meridian sound system with a subwoofer and 10 speakers strategically placed around the cabin. For safety and driver-assist features, the Discovery Sport comes standard with emergency braking,

lane keep assist, front and rear parking aid, driver condition monitor, cruise control and speed limiter, and 360 degrees surround camera. Additional safety features can be had with the optional Park Pack and Drive Pack.

The new Discovery Sport is offered locally in two variants: SE and the R-Dynamic. Both SUV models are powered by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder 150PS Turbocharged D150 Diesel engine which is optimized to deliver the best fuel economy. The engine is capable of producing 148 Hp of power and 380 Nm of peak torque and is partnered to a nine-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel-drive comes standard. The SE rides on a set of 19-inch alloy wheels and tan interior theme while the R-Dynamic sits on 20-inch allow rims with a black interior motif.
