2020 Ssangyong Musso Grand is not only bigger but also better
MANILA: Since the launch of its mid-size pickup truck, the Musso, Ssangyong has tasted a fair bit of success in the segment. In order to build on the success and reputation gained, the South Korean automobile manufacturer has launched the Musso Grand in the Philippines. The Ssangyong Musso Grand is nothing but a bigger and better version of the standard Musso. The Musso Grand comes in three variants which get the following price tags:
- Musso Grand 2.2L A/T 4x4 – Php 1,650,000
- Musso Grand 2.2L A/T 4x2 – Php 1,230,000
- Musso Grand 2.2L M/T 4x2 – Php 1,180,000
While the Musso Grand may appear similar to the standard Musso, the former is significantly longer than the latter by 310 mm at 5,405 mm. At 1,950 mm and 1,840 mm, the width and height remain the same as before. The most interesting bit here is the bed on the Musso Grand, which is the biggest in the market at 1,610 mm long, 1,570 mm wide, and 571 mm tall.
Courtesy of the leaf spring suspension setup at the rear, the Ssangyong Musso Grand can carry 1,025-kg. The standard Musso, on the other hand, boasts a cargo capacity of 850-kg due to its coil springs. Just like the newly launched Ssangyong Rexton, the Musso Grand also features brown leather upholstery inside the cabin.
An eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a six-speaker sound system takes care of the entertainment prerequisites. The pickup truck from South Korea also gets a sunroof, electronically-adjustable front seats with heating & ventilation, dual-zone climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
On the lower variants, though, we only see a 3.5-inch audio display, four-speaker sound system, standard rearview mirror, manual air-conditioning, black fabric upholstery, and manually adjustable front seats. Powering the Ssangyong Musso Grand is a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel that comes equipped with e-VGT. The maximum power produced is 181 PS. Interestingly, while the automatic variant gets 420 Nm of peak torque, the manual model has to make way with 400 Nm only. The range-topping variant of the Musso Grand also benefits from a 4WD.
In terms of the safety equipment on board, six SRS airbags, keyless entry, abs with EBD, stability control, hill-descent control, active rollover protection, alarm with immobilizer, and a reverse camera are part of the package.
The lower end 4x2 variants, however, get dual front SRS airbags only. Also, active rollover protection, stability control, and hill-descent control are also exclusive to the top-of-the-line 4x4 model.
