2020 Toyota Hilux gets fresh fascia, power bump, and new Cargo variant
MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) updates the Hilux for model year 2020 with a more robust grille, added safety features, increased power output, plus a new Cargo trim for customers with increased commercial mobility demands.
The new front comes with a bigger rendition of the hexagonal-shaped front grille, which is highlighted by thicker cladding around it and L-shaped foglamp housing.
The Conquest trim comes with bi-beam LED headlights and LED rear combination lamps with line guide, and sports bar with LED lamps. The tailgate gets an over-fender garnish and "Conquest" decals on both sides of the cargo bed. It also offers and exclusive Emotional Red body color.
Keyless entry is now offered in the Conquest, G, and E grades, with Conquest variants getting smart entry and push start/stop system. All three grades also have power adjust with auto fold for side mirrors and speed-sensing door locks.
It still gets the 4.2-inch TFT multi-information display but adds Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility for Conquest, G, and E grades. Exclusive to the Conquest is cruise control.
Under the hood of the New Hilux 4x4 variants is a 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV engine with more output at 201hp and 500Nm of torque for the AT variant, and 420Nm max torque for the MT variant with Intelligent Manual Transmission. The 4x2 Conquest, G, and E variants get the 2.4-liter 2GD-FTV engine with 148hp max output, and 400Nm max torque.
As we reported, both the 1GD and 2GD engines are improved and now offers 4-5% improvement in fuel efficiency versus the previous-generation Hilux.
It doesn’t come with Toyota Safety Sense like its Thai counterpart but all three grades have SRS airbags (seven for the 4x4 Conquest AT variant), three-point ELR seatbelts, anti-lock brake system with brake assist and electronic brakeforce distribution, vehicle stability control, and hill-start assist control. Conquest 4x4 variants also have downhill assist control and active traction control.
Clearance sonars are available for Conquest while back sonars are available for G grades, and the reverse camera is available for Conquest variants.
TMP will continue to offer the Hilux J in 4x4 and 4x2, Cab and Chassis, and FX for its fleet and business partners. But along with the update, TMP also brings in the Hilux Cargo. This is a rear seat-less, windowless variant powered by the same 2GD engine. It is specifically designed for the more demanding needs of mobilizing goods and services.
Last year, the Hilux captured 30.5% of the segment and TMP aims to increase that by offering more variants of the model.
