MANILA: Volvo took home three category wins in the 2022 What Car? Electric Car Awards.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T4 was hailed as the Best Hybrid Small SUV. The judges said that “no rival can match its all-round ability.” They praised the XC40 Recharge’s “impressively economical 1.5-liter petrol engine” and the “comfortable ride and spacious, well-finished interior.” Additionally, they noted that unlike many rival models, accommodating the plug-in hybrid technology does not compromise space in the load compartment.

Meanwhile, the Volvo XC60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T8 was named the Best Used Hybrid Large SUV, thanks to its practicality, spaciousness, cutting-edge safety technologies, and “plush interior.” The judges found the XC60 to be ahead of its rivals in the used car market because it is “more affordable and offering stronger performance.”

Another Volvo electric vehicle recognized by What Car? is the XC90 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T8, which won the Best Used Hybrid Luxury SUV award for the second consecutive year. The judging panel lauded the vehicle's “outstandingly quick acceleration,” excellent pure-electric driving range, and “seriously tempting prices” for used units. “You're getting a car that's good to drive, loaded with tech and safety kit, and fitted with seven very usable seats,” they said.

“These awards are a great validation of our electrification program, showing how the delivery of new powertrain technologies is not compromising any of the qualities that define our brand,” Volvo Car UK Managing Director Kristian Elvefors stated. “Customers are assured of performance, practicality, safety and style, whether they are buying a new or pre-owned plug-in hybrid Volvo. Even well into their life cycles, our SUVs remain leaders in their respective classes.”
