The program will have an eight-month classroom-based and practical lessons, as well as a four-month on-the-job training (OJT) at a Hyundai service center. In a statement, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) said that the scholars from the aforementioned city were admitted to a 12-month Industrial Skills Training Program under Don Bosco Makati’s Technical-Vocational Education and Training curriculum.
“This makes the City of Pasig the brand’s second partner under its scholarship program, following the Department of Education Taguig and Pateros (DepEd TAPAT),” the Korean automaker’s local arm shared.
The said program will include an eight-month classroom-based and practical lessons, as well as a four-month on-the-job training (OJT) at a Hyundai service center. The students' knowledge and skills will be evaluated through quarterly and midterm progress reports, which will also determine the possibility of their employment with HMPH's dealer partners.
Leading the ceremonial signing of agreement were HMPH President Dong Wook Lee, Managing Director Cecil Capacete, Chief Finance Officer Hong Shik Chin, Pasig City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis Sotto, Vice Mayor Robert Vincent Jude Jaworski Jr., as well as Councilors Mark Gil Delos Santos, and Corazon Raymundo.
Lee expressed elation over the collaboration forged with Pasig City government.
“We thank the City Government of Pasig for allowing us to support as well as be one of the contributors of its Five-Point Agenda, specifically the “Education” pillar. Together, let us look after our youth – pave the way for their access to quality training and resources which will help lead them to becoming well-rounded employed individuals,” he said.
For his part, Sotto shared his vision for the city in terms of empowering its people.
“One of the things we always discuss to level up the field of education here is the job skills matching. We need to really develop a framework for the multiple pathways that a child or a person can have towards a better career and a better life,” the City mayor noted.
He continued, “At the end of the day, the number one thing we are concerned about and we are trying to do is to equally give people a chance to a better chance and a better future. We’re very thankful for the partnership with Hyundai Motor Philippines because we see that this is precisely the way to go. Not just to give the students scholarships and extend help, but also to give them a guaranteed future,” Sotto noted.
Aimed to provide disadvantaged youth with opportunities in the automotive industry, the Hyundai Accelerate program is the fruit of the HMPH’s partnership with the Don Bosco Makati and DepEd TAPAT.
Under the said cooperation, 40 students from Metro Manila will be enrolled in the program this year. The first 10 will be chosen by DepEd TAPAT, 15 by the Pasig City government, and another 15 by the Quezon City government.
