5-door Suzuki Jimny spotted in PH

MANILA: Someone has spotted a handful of five-door Suzuki Jimy sport-utility vehicles being transported along Star Toll Expressway in the Southern Luzon.

The photos were posted by Glasspro Windshield Scratch and Crack Repair Auto Detailing on their Facebook page.

The five-door variant of the Suzuki Jimny is yet to be launched here in the country, but the sighting of the actual units being hauled — probably to or from the carmaker’s plant in Canlubang, Laguna — could mean that its Philippine debut could be sooner than expected.

While the automobile division of Suzuki has yet to make a statement, it is highly possible that the five-door Suzuki Jimny will be introduced in the country in the first quarter of 2024.

In India, the five-door Suzuki Jimny is powered by the 1.5-liter K15B gasoline engine mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission. The same powerplant can be found on locally sold models such as the three-door Jimny and the XL7.

The said setup gives the Inidan-market five-door Suzuki Jimny a maximum power output of 103 horsepower and 134 Newton-meters of torque.mny

In terms of size, the five-door Jimny is 3,985 millimeters (mm) long, 1,645mm wide, and 1,720mm tall. It has a minimum ground clearance of 210mm and a wheelbase of 2,590mm.

And pretty much like the Philippine-spec three-door Jimny, the five-door variant sports retro-modern looks with rounded LED headlamps, the iconic five-slot grille, wide off-set trapezoidal wheel arches, a clamshell hood, scratch-resistant bumpers, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Inside, it gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel, comfortable fabric seats, and a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Safety-wise, the five-door Suzuki Jimny sold in India comes with a host of safety features including a brake limited slip differential, an anti-lock brake system, electronic brake-force distribution, hill hold control, hill descent control, brake assist, and an electronic stability program, to name a few.

The added third-row seating would make the Suzuki Jimny more than just a toy car for enthusiasts, providing better utility and space for carrying one’s family or more cargo.
