ACMobility reveals BYD Sealion 6 DM-i

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines has officially launched the latest addition to its roster, the Sealion 6 DM-i.

Part of the brand’s same "Ocean" series (alongside the locally available Dolphin and the possibly-arriving Seagull), the newest offering features a new powertrain technology called Super DM-i.

Per the Ayala-led automotive distributor, the said feature is designed to attain driving ranges beyond 1,000 kilometers.

Here are the specifications of the all-new BYD Sealion 6 DM-i.

The said vehicle measures 4,775 millimeters (mm) long; 1,890 mm wide; 1,670 mm tall with a 2,765-mm wheelbase, 173-mm ground clearance and cargo capacity of 552 liters.

Its modern-looking exterior (dubbed the Ocean X Face Design) comes with LED illumination system (made up of the manually-height adjustable U-shaped LED headlamps, crystal texture light belt, and interlinked Ocean Starlight taillights), power folding side mirrors, roof rack, and a power tailgate.

It sits on 19-inch surging waves-inspired alloy wheels wrapped in 135/50 radial tires.

Welcoming occupants inside the electrified crossover are the leather-covered seats (power-adjustable for both front occupants, 12.3-inch digital cluster, 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system (Apple Carplay and Android Auto-compatible) mated to 10-speaker Infinity setup, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone auto-climate air-conditioning system, and eight bottle holders.

The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i’s Super DM-i features a front-wheel-drive permanent magnet synchronous motor with a 1.5-liter range extender gasoline engine that serves as a generator.

According to BYD Cars Philippines, the electric motor can deliver a peak of 194 horsepower (hp) and 325 Newton-meters of torque. On the other hand, the newly-launched vehicle’s internal combustion engine-portion can dish out 105 hp and 135 Nm. Combined, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i can give 214 horses.

Further, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i can go 100 kilometers per hour (kph) from standstill in 8.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 170 kph.

Its ventilated disc brakes guarantee deceleration and halting while assuring the vehicle’s stability on the road are the McPherson struts and multi-link suspension setup.

The powertrain setup also has three drive modes (Economy, Normal, and Sport) and terrain mode adjuster (Snow, Grit, Grass).

Outfitted with a 60-liter fuel tank and an 18.3 kilowatt-hour lithium-iron phosphate BYD Blade Battery, the vehicle can cover 1,100 kilometers.  

Its host of driver assistive amenities under the DiPilot are the 360-degree with see-through mode, six-radar sensor setup, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure assist, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, traffic congestion assistance, and traffic sign recognition.

Such technologies complement the traction control system, electronic stability control, anti-lock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution and comfort braking function, as well as the electronic anti-theft system.

Further, the sport utility vehicle’s comfort and convenience features are the near-field communication card, DiLink system, ambient lighting, speed-sensing door locks, four USB charging ports, a wireless charging dock, and a 12-volt socket.

Expected to compete with the likes of the Ford Territory, Honda CR-V RS eHEV, as well as Toyota’s RAV4, and Corolla Cross, the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is priced at P1.548 million.
