All about 2020 Suzuki Ertiga upgrades
The Japanese automaker, who pioneers the compact car concept in the country, made minor tweaks on their Suzuki Ertiga despite its initial success in their bid to stay competitive. Launch early last year, the second-generation Ertiga already gets a few upgrades as Suzuki Philippines try to compete on the hotly contested 7-seater MPV segment currently dominated by Honda BR-V.
The move is part of the car company’s proactive response to the needs of the diversified market. According to Suzuki Philippines Director and Automobile Division General Manager Keiichi Suzuki, “With the increasingly diversified demands of the local auto industry and needs of end-users, we cannot be complacent when we’ve done well and stop innovating. We want to make sure that our customers get more than they deserve, which is why we decided to further improve the best-selling Ertiga.” He further adds that “All the upgrades on the new Ertiga are designed to give Filipino riders the confidence to enjoy every adventure knowing they and their family are safe and comfortable… Our goal is to always ensure that our customers have optimum driving experience.” So what’s new on the Ertiga?
A new set of wheels
The upgraded 2020 Suzuki Ertiga now rides in a new set of wheels. Well, at least for the base model and top-of-the-line variant that is. The flagship Suzuki Ertiga GLX now rolls in a sportier-looking dual-tone 15-inch polished alloy rims which replaces the multi-spoke design. For the base model GA, it gets full wheel covers. Besides the aforementioned, there are no other changes made on the exterior. This means, the 2020 Suzuki Ertiga still has the same front bumper set up with its chrome front grille, halogen reflectors or projector headlights depending on the variant, and the same overarching L-shaped taillights at the rear.
Slight interior modifications
Inside, the cabin of the Ertiga remains mostly the same except for two very slight yet noticeable modifications. For one, the GLX model now comes with a digital automatic climate control AC system. The traditional plastic dial controls for manual adjustments are now replaced with knobs and buttons.
The mid and base models GA and GL, however, still comes with the three-dial setup. The second interior upgrade is the second-row foldable center armrest sans the cup holders for the GL and GLX variants. When flipped open, the armrest will limit the second-row passengers to two instead of three for a more comfortable ride.
Price list for 2020 Suzuki Ertiga
With minimal upgrades comes minimal price increase. With just an added Php 5,000, you’ll get an upgraded Ertiga with a new set of wheels, automatic AC system, and second-row foldable armrest. At least for the GLX. The price matrix for the current Black Edition and the upgraded Ertiga is shown in the price matrix below.

Just to refresh your memory, the second-generation Ertiga that was initially launched in January last year are priced at Php 728K, Php 848K, Php 888K, and 978K for the GA, GL MT, GL AT, and GLX respectively. Later that same year, Suzuki launched the Black Edition and decided to quietly phase out the previously launched version— the Ertiga with beige interiors, and replaced the whole lineup with the Black Edition. The Black Edition and the upgraded version of the Ertiga are both available on Suzuki dealerships.
The same engine
The Suzuki Ertiga is still powered by the same K15B 1.5-liter, in-line 4, 16 valves DOHC gasoline engine that delivers a decent 103 Hp of maximum output and 138 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. A new flagship model or an entirely new unit, the Suzuki XL7—a more robust and rugged-looking Ertiga crossover, will arrive soon on our shores. This new MPV is priced at Php 1.068 million but also carries the same engine specs just like the rest of the Ertiga fleet.
Bottom line
The slight modifications on the Ertiga are truly minimal but hey, a nicer looking set of rims and updates inside the cabin are very much welcome. The automatic AC will make the Ertiga look more modern. While the armrest, well, it helps limit the second-row passenger so they too also get a comfortable ride which is essential for those long weekend trips.
Are the changes on the Ertiga worth its price? If you are buying the top-of-the-line Ertiga GLX AT, it definitely gives bang for your bucks. But if you are going for the mid and base model variants, then it’s basically just a price increase so just go for the Black Edition. After all, both the Black Edition and upgraded versions are available in Suzuki car dealerships nationwide.
