All-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro positioned as value-packed midsize SUV

MANILA: United Asia Automotive Group Inc. (UAAGI), the official distributor of Chery vehicles in the Philippines, targets to cater to the fast-growing sector of customers who prefer value but also want more premium features in their cars.

The all-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro seven-seater midsize sports utility vehicle (SUV), which Chery formally introduced at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), is directly aimed at this class. When the Tiggo 8 Pro was released in its home market in 2020, the China Media Group gave it the Most Innovative Car Award.

In a statement, UAAGI President Erroll Dueñas said, “We are excited to unveil our brilliant, new flagship in the all-new Chery Tiggo 8 Pro. With its luxurious styling and features, we expect it to surprise and delight Filipinos longing for the design and technology found in high-end luxury SUVs, but at a much more affordable price point.”

The Tiggo 8 Pro features an attractive front end that bears a resemblance to the brand's hot-selling Tiggo 7 Pro, giving it a dominating presence on the road. The Tiggo 8 Pro has a large, bold Diamond grille with European styling and upscale-looking compact LED headlamps. For cutting-edge road illumination, the fog lamps and daytime running lights (DRLs) are all LED.

Character lines, wide 18-inch alloy wheels with comfort-oriented 235/55R18 tires, and a pronounced silver-chrome trim on the lower half of the doors provide more upscale design elements. The striking silver-chrome door strip complements the top window line trim and roof rails, which have a similar design.

The rear maintains the luxury concept, with elegantly sculpted LED taillamps, flawlessly fitted silver-chrome-tipped dual tailpipes, and a rear spoiler that smoothly stretches from the roof, improving the visual performance and sophisticated look.

The well-crafted, leather-covered, two-tone brown-and-black cabin of the Tiggo 8 Pro depicts the same premium aesthetic and high build quality and features as the exterior. The Tiggo 8 Pro is designed with a premium soft-touch dashboard and exquisite diamond stitching on the seats. It is also equipped with a large Apple CarPlay-enabled 12.3-inch touchscreen with eight speakers, wireless smartphone charging, and three USB ports. It also comes with a fully digital seven-inch instrument cluster.

The Tiggo 8 Pro is also equipped with a premium leather steering wheel with a flat bottom to maximize legroom and several buttons and switches to control infotainment functions and cruise control. Long trips are also made more comfortable with six-way power-adjustable front seats. The panoramic power sunroof provides a stunning view of the sky and stars, while a digital touch panel controls the air conditioning system, adding to the luxury feel.

Other premium features include a power tailgate, a push-button electronic parking brake, and a rear camera with front and rear proximity sensors.

The Tiggo 8 Pro is powered by a new-generation turbocharged gasoline direct-injection (TGDI) 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve Euro 5-compliant four-cylinder engine that churns out 183 hp at 5,500 rpm and 275 Nm of torque from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

To ensure the safety of all occupants, the Tiggo 8 Pro comes standard with Anti-lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control System, Hill Assist Control, Hill Descent Control, Front Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and ISOFIX child-seat tethers. It also comes with a Brake Override System that instantly overrides the throttle when the gas and brake pedals are unintentionally depressed at the same time.

Chery Auto Philippines also debuts an award-winning Advanced Driving Assistance System (ADAS) with 11 features for outstanding safety, such as Blind Spot Detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Door Opening Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Integrated Cruise Assist, Intelligent High-Beam Control, Lane Departure Warning, and Speed Limit Sign Recognition.

The Tiggo 8 Pro also comes in a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) variant. The Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV, which was recently unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, ups the ante in world-class fuel-efficient hybrid mobility by blending excellent performance with 0-60 kph acceleration figure of just under five seconds.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine works in tandem with a high-powered electric motor and state-of-the-art batteries, both of which are combined with a revolutionary hybrid transmission gearbox to achieve these incredible fuel efficiency and performance. In pure electric mode, the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV can travel up to 90 km. The charging time is only three hours.

Every purchase of Tiggo 8 Pro comes with the Chery Premium Preserv which includes a 10-year or one million-km engine warranty, a five-year/150,000-km general vehicle warranty, free preventive maintenance service (PMS) for three years, and free roadside assistance for three years.

The Tiggo 8 Pro is priced at P1.645 million, while the Tiggo 8 Pro PHEV retails for P2.4 million.

MIAS also got a sneak peek on the upcoming Tiggo 5x Pro, which is set to take the subcompact SUV market by storm when it goes on sale.
