Audi reveals A6 e-tron concept at 2021 Shanghai Auto Show
MANILA: Audi has officially unveiled the four-door Audi A6 e-tron concept at the Auto Shanghai 2021 show. The new concept car is part of the brand’s “e-volution” towards electric mobility.
Just like the recently launched Audi Q4 e-tron and Q4 Sportback e-tron compact sports utility vehicles (SUVs), the new Audi A6 e-tron concept is all-electric. It is engineered with Audi’s new premium platform electric (PPE) architecture that will serve as the technology platform of the brand’s upcoming models. The first production cars in C- and the B-segments will be relaunched with PPE technology starting next year.
The A6 nameplate has represented the brand in one of the world’s highest-volume segments since 1968 and until 1994 as the Audi 100. The new A6 e-tron is not the first A6 that acquired an electrified drive system—a full hybrid version of A6 was launched in 2011 and the Audi A6 TFSIe uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The PPE technology empowers the A6 e-tron concept’s driving performance and makes the car suitable for daily use. The Audi A6 e-tron is expected to reach a range of over 700 kilometers, and the top variants will have the ability to accelerate from zero to 100kph in less than four seconds.
The Audi A6 e-tron comes with two electric motors that generate a power output of 350kW and 800Nm of torque. The front wheels are connected by a five-link axle that is exclusively designed for electric vehicles, while the rear wheels use a multi-link setup. The A6 e-tron rides on air suspension with adaptive dampers.
Audi’s PPE vehicles are designed with a long wheelbase and short overhangs to provide extra legroom for front and rear passengers. The absence of a transmission tunnel also gives the cabin more space. All PPE models, including the A6 e-tron, use Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
The Audi A6 e-tron’s exterior features a monolithic form with large enclosed Singleframe grille surrounded by deep air intakes to cool the drivetrain, battery, and brakes. The specially sculpted battery area is embellished with a black inlay, giving the car an Audi electric vehicle distinction. The A6 e-tron also comes with camera-based exterior mirrors, 22-inch wheels, short overhangs, and a wide coupe roof arch. The sloping rear side window gives the car a sportier look.
The A6 e-tron concept is developed with Audi’s trademark lighting technology that features slim headlights and taillights. It uses digital matrix LED and digital OLED technology for optimum brightness and customizable light signatures. Three-high resolution LED projectors are mounted into the sides of the body. More projectors are installed in the vehicle to display warning symbols and turn signals.
The Audi A6 e-tron concept makes the brand move another step forward in their journey towards electric mobility with the help of PPE.
