Bentley Batur now offers 3D light showcase upon ingress
A client's custom design of choice will be flashed to the ground as soon as the doors are opened
MANILA: Bentley has added a new form of customization for customers looking to get themselves a Batur thanks to a feature that delivers welcome animation sequences projected to the ground from the door.

What technology makes the Bentley
According to Bentley, the said feature is made possibly through the harnessing of Advanced Digital Light Processing. When does the said feature activate?
The said feature is activated when the doors of the motor vehicle is opened.According to the British carmaker, the said feature — called “light sculpture” — uses Advanced digital light processing (DLP) to produce an animated welcome image when the door of the car is opened.
The new projection system — Bentley pointed out — brings the potential for a customer to curate a bespoke welcome animation for their car, offering a true first step into digital personalization.
“This is the first automotive application using DLP technology, which can be found in advanced headlights and head-up display systems, to welcome occupants to a car. The projection system that makes this possible uses three colored light sources projecting through five different lenses and two prisms into a highly advanced eight millimeter two digital micromirror device (DMD). The light signal is then focused through five further lenses, displaying the animation on the ground when the doors open,” Bentley explained in a press statement.
“The DMD device is a small silicone chip that consists of 415,800 tiny mirrors. Through the movement of the mirrors, a moving image can be produced. The mirrors themselves are made of aluminum and are 16 microns in width — a fifth of the width of a human hair. As the size of the mirror and hinge is so small they can react thousands of times per second with each mirror delivering one pixel in the animation,” the company added.
While it is not announced yet, “light sculpture” could soon be offered in other bespoke Bentley commissions. The image shown in the photo included in this story showcases the Batur’s design and profile. However, various images can be projected through the said system, which we assume could range from preppy monograms to family insignias, and so on.
