Bentley invests £2.5-B to reach sustainability goal

MANILA: Bentley announced that it will invest £2.5 billion in transforming its entire vehicle lineup to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and in making its Crewe production line more sustainable.

The first Bentley BEV is scheduled for production in 2025. The new BEV is also part of the brand’s Beyond100 strategy, in which Bentley plans to offer only EVs and become end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030.

Meanwhile, the investment can boost the UK economy, and also help secure Bentley’s first step into electrification at the production plant, where all Bentley models are built and 4,000 people work, Bentley said in a statement.

The investment will cover the electrification of Bentley’s entire product portfolio, and creation of the “Bentley Dream Factory.” The Dream Factory will transform Bentley’s Crewe production line into a “future benchmark of luxury car manufacturing with unique customer and employee experiences.”

Bentley added that the Crewe site will be “ultra-flexible,” use “digital manufacturing concepts,” and “reduce environmental impact to a minimum” with every vehicle built.

“Our aim is to become the benchmark not just for luxury cars or sustainable credentials but the entire scope of our operations,” Bentley Chairman and CEO Adrian Hallmark said.

“Securing production of our first BEV in Crewe is a milestone moment for Bentley, and the UK, as we plan for a long-term sustainable future in Crewe,” he concluded.
