KEY TAKEAWAYS
How many Bentley Continental GT Speed units shall be running the Goodwood Hill Climb competition this year?
Bentley will field the model's coupe and convertible versions in the event. How much output can the new engine deliver?
The mill can deliver as much 771 horsepower and 1000 Newton-meters of torque.Per the Crewe-headquartered marque, the nameplate — in both coupe and convertible versions — shall be present at the much-awaited event and is set to run on the famous Goodwood Hill Climb twice a day from Thursday until Sunday.
In a normal environment, the new Bentley Continental GT Speed can reach 100 kilometers per hour (kph) from rest in 3.2 seconds and hit a peak of 335 kph .
Powered by the new Ultra Performance Hybrid electrocharged powertrain, the new Continental GT Speed has the capacity to send 771 horsepower and 1000 Newton-meters of torque, running on Coryton’s second-generation renewable biofuel and a hybrid battery charged with electricity from Bentley’s own solar panel array.
The new mill, Bentley noted, can deliver more output compared to the outgoing W12 engine — with a significant drop in carbon emissions to 29 grams per kilometer.
Aside from the two new Bentley Continental GT Speed, event-goers can also see a third car on display at the Festival of Speed to celebrate the underwater speed record.
The Tourmaline Green Continental GT Speed display car will appear behind a three-ton fish tank containing 1,400 liters of water and 30 Shubunkins and other goldfishes.
Two separate tanks together weigh more than three tons when full, with the water held back by 80-millimeter-thick acrylic sheets. Each tank is flow-rated and filtered to ensure the water is clean, and an on-site aquarium specialist will be at the event over the course of the Festival of Speed. The back wall of the display will house a large, outdoor LED screen that will play both the Underwater Speed Record launch film and a new behind-the-scenes look into how the record was achieved.
Last April 18, the latest Bentley offering reached its top speed through the 14.5-kilometer Ryfylke tunnel in Norway - the longest road tunnel, and deepest sub- sea tunnel of any kind in the world.
The new offering carries over the third-generation model’s design language. Its fore maintained the square-shaped mesh grille and a long-sculpted bonnet as well as the beefy look. However, the front fascia now has LED daytime running light bars and a new pair of oval-shaped LED headlamps.
Amenities that are available in the fourth-generation Bentley Continental GT Speed include intelligent park assist, ionizers in the air-conditioning system, 12.3-inch high-definition display linked to a 10-speaker Bang and Olufsen speaker system that is wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto-ready and has over-the-air map updates, remote charging status, remote park assist, and remote cabin pre-conditioning technologies.
