Bentley unveils Flying Spur Hyrbid by ‘The Surgeon’

MANILA: Bentley showcased a one-of-a-kind, bespoke Flying Spur Hybrid at its pinnacle evening event in Art Basel Miami. The vehicle was unveiled after the introduction of a limited-edition line of Bentley-inspired sneakers by the leading force of the customized shoe industry, Dominic Ciambrone, popularly known as The Surgeon.

Miami attracts a lot of design enthusiasts during the week of Art Basel, with 20 international art fairs, over 1,200 galleries, and thousands of artists in attendance. To honor the power of individuality, Mulliner, Bentley's in-house personal commissioning division, has created three unique vehicles that combine artistic expression and unmatched craftsmanship, with the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid by The Surgeon serving as the showpiece.

A pioneer in the custom shoe market, The Surgeon is renowned for his effortless merging of high fashion and street culture. He was inspired to make a small batch of 10 pairs of custom sneakers after a trip to the Bentley Mulliner division in early 2022. The sneakers featured Bentley craft details like diamond quilting and cross stitching as well as his trademark “Surgeon” skull and scalpel monogram.

For the second collaboration, the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid served as the perfect blank canvas for The Surgeon's creativity because of its exquisite lines and handcrafted interior. With its V6 combustion engine and E-Motor, the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid represents the next step in Bentley's Beyond100 journey toward an electrified luxury future.

The Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid's specifications are perfect in every way. The Mulliner Blackline specification replaces exterior polished chrome with all-black brightware, while the Styling Specification adds a front splitter, side sills, rear diffuser, and boot lip spoiler made of carbon fiber.

The Flying Spur Hybrid x The Surgeon uses a striking exterior palette in a powerful yet harmonious blend that's similar to Ciambrone's own brand aesthetic. Ciambrone created a subtle sense of power and assurance by using a duo-tone paint finish of Anthracite over Anthracite Satin. The modest use of Satin Bronze, which can be seen on the lower front, side, and rear bumpers, breaks up the monochrome palette. A bespoke Satin Bronze pinstripe runs the entire length of the Bentley, while the 22-inch Satin Anthracite wheels have a Satin Bronze pinstripe around the outer rim. The Hybrid badge on the fender and the Surgeon badges on the D pillars have the same finish. An illuminated Flying B radiator mascot in Gloss Black adds the finishing touch.

The cabin immediately draws passengers into a realm of uniqueness and innovation. The motif on the outer sill panel reads “The Surgeon,” and the inner sill plate expresses his personal philosophy, “Never Stop.” Bespoke LED welcome lamps also reflect the skull and crossed scalpel logo onto the floor to guide the passengers as they enter.

Linen serves as the primary hide for the seats, doors, and lower fascia, while Beluga serves as the secondary hide for the fascia top, center through-console, and rear parcel shelf. There is a contrast stitching in Bronze on the seats, seat piping, and in a cross-stitch pattern on the steering wheel. The namestyle “Surgeon” is embroidered in Bronze on the seats, and above it, the Surgeon logo is featured on the headrests.

The cabin is covered in walnut veneer, and Ciambrone honored Mulliner's craftsmanship by specifying contrasting finishes: the lower veneer is made of high-gloss Crown Cut Walnut and has a repeating motif of Bentley's logo with the skull and crossed scalpels laser-etched into it. The upper veneer is open-pore Crown Cut Walnut, giving it a tactile satin finish. The two veneers are separated by a Gloss White pinstripe that runs from door to door across the fascia and over the upper vanes of the bull's-eye air vents. Walnut inserts with a “three-dimensional” diamond patterning are also seen on the rear doors.

The front and rear center consoles are covered in Grand Black gloss veneer, and the rear cupholder has the Surgeon logo embossed in chrome. A bespoke shade of matching Bronze hide can be noticed at the six o'clock tab on the steering wheel and as a covering for the gearlever, unifying the exterior and interior designs. Bronze Satin is used on the B+O speaker cones.

Three different faces are available for the Bentley rotating display in the fascia: analog dials, a digital display, or walnut veneer. When the latter is displayed, the namestyle “Surgeon” is highlighted in gold. The distinctive knurled finish used by Bentley on controls and touchpoints adds additional tactile and visual appeal.
