‘Big in performance’ MG 5 wows pro racers with endurance challenge win
MANILA: An MG 5 MT Core won the Manufacturer’s Class category at the Bonifacio Eight-Hour Endurance Challenge recently held at Clark International Speedway. It also placed eighth place in the overall ranking.
The sedan was helmed by amateur racer Marc Soong, seasoned car racing champion and coach Allan Uy, and champion racer Gaby Dela Merced. These driving experts showcased the vehicle’s superior power despite the challenging race which was made more arduous by the harsh weather.
The Bonifacio Eight-Hour Endurance Challenge is a race that evaluates a car’s durability, resilience, and performance.
The vehicle joined the Manufacturer’s Class category which is specifically for stock car units. Aside from besting in the category, MG is also taking pride on its overall placement, side by side with customized and revamped units. Uy was impressed with his experience with the MG 5. According to him, “I expected the handling to be good since this British car is known to have excellent handling. The MG 5 doesn’t oversteer at challenging turns on the track. Reliability was another thing I felt sure of with the MG 5. It is also lightweight and well-balanced compared to other cars in its category.”
Dela Merced also spoked highly of the sedan. She said, “Usually, you’d feel the wear and tear mid race, especially since this was an eight-hour endurance challenge. Imagine pushing the car to the limit the whole time. How it rode from the start was the same all throughout. No changes in feel, brakes were the same from start to finish, the tranny kept its tip-top form. That’s something that rarely happens.”
Also expressing his commendation, Soong commented, “As a stock car, it surprised us all with its reliability and performance. The MG 5 really held up to the abuse of driving on a racetrack, and it was surprisingly quick.”
Due to its win, MG Philippines is planning to include “Big in Performance” to the MG 5’s current tagline: “Big in Features, Big in Comfort.” The vehicle model is traditionally known for its large dimensions, competent features, and vast and comfortable interior.
MG Philippines President and CEO Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla congratulated the team behind the endurance challenge win. According to him, “The achievement is a pure demonstration of your teamwork, skill, and ability to adjust given the inclement weather and the unpredictable race conditions. We are happy to know that the MG 5 has lived up to and surpassed expectations in terms of performance, which is something that all our MG 5 owners can likewise attest to.”
