Is Volvo's Advanced Air Cleaner proven to be asthma- and allergy-friendly?
Yes, Allergy Standards Limited has certified the Advanced Air Cleaner as asthma- and allergy-friendly.On which Volvo models is the Advanced Air Cleaner available?
The Advanced Air Cleaner is part of Volvo's latest air-purification technology available on the 60 and 90 series models.Because of this, Volvo Cars is working actively to provide its customers with ever-improving air quality inside its latest vehicles through innovative air-purification technology.
Volvo recognizes that clean air has numerous health and safety benefits, and it will strive to improve in this area as it develops its vehicles.
Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) has certified the Advanced Air Cleaner as asthma- and allergy-friendly. The Advanced Air Cleaner is part of Volvo's newest air-purification technology available on the 60 and 90 series models, eliminating up to 99.9% of grass, tree, and weed pollen allergens from incoming air.
ASL is an independent certification program that assists consumers in identifying products that are suitable for asthma and allergy sufferers.
In a statement, Volvo Cars Occupant Health Effects Expert Dr. Maria Bernander said, “By helping our customers improve the air quality inside their Volvo car, we will help reduce the adverse health effects associated with air pollution, allergens and fine particulates. In addition to personal health benefits, studies have shown that cleaner air can also help boost concentration, which can help you stay more focused during the drive.”
Furthermore, drivers of the latest Volvo cars will be able to determine if the air in their car's cabin needs to be purified with the help of live data that shows actual outdoor pollen and air quality levels on the car's center display. With this in-house-developed app, Volvo is the first car manufacturer to deliver live data about outdoor pollen levels to drivers.
“By regularly testing and evolving the air-purification features in our cars, we can increase our competitive advantage by offering a more comfortable and healthier driving experience,” Volvo Cars Cabin Air Quality Technical Expert Anders Lofvendahl stated.
Volvo cars equipped with the company's newest air-purification technology also come with a sensor that detects PM 2.5 levels within the cabin and allows occupants to compare them to outside levels. The sensor was introduced in 2020 as a world-first innovation in Volvo cars.
PM 2.5 levels are a widely used air quality indicator that measures the amount of small particulate matter in the air. Many urban areas around the world have PM 2.5 levels that are higher than the World Health Organization's recommended levels, indicating the need to reduce their impact.
Up to 95% of all PM 2.5 particles are filtered out of the cabin in Volvo's 60 and 90 series models, thanks to the Advanced Air Cleaner's synthetic fiber-based filter and ionization.
Moreover, the Advanced Air Cleaner can eliminate more than 97% of airborne viruses that would otherwise enter the cabin through the air filter, as well as up to 95% of existing viral levels in the car. The viral filtration efficiency of its filter and ionizer makes the technology particularly effective against airborne viruses, according to recent studies conducted by the independent Austrian research and testing institute OFI.
