BYD Sealion 6 DM-i makes epic 1,600-km journey

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines, together with Ramirez and Cutter Events and the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP), has proven that the all-new Sealion 6 DM-i can travel over 1,600 kilometers in one full tank of fuel. 

The aforementioned feat of the Super DM-i-based vehicle was revealed at its launch event held at Glorietta Malls, Makati City. Zigwheels Philippines also interviewed road safety expert and veteran racer Louis Ramirez of Ramirez and Cutter Events about how the testing was carried out. 

As Ramirez shared, officers of the AAP had stepped in as the official proctors of the test drive. Furthermore, the auto club also taped up the fuel caps of the Sealion 6 DMI-i to ensure the “one full tank” aspect of the journey. 

“There was a third car with Art and JC from AAP, and they were with us from the very beginning. In the morning, when we did a 100 percent charge, they sealed the flap for the charging. We had to put in gas, and they sealed the fuel tank also with a sticker,” Ramirez said. 

After the necessary preparations, two units of the all-new model, driven by Louis and Georges Ramirez, undertook a journey from Bonifacio Global City to Tuguegarao City in Cagayan Valley, then to Pagudpud, followed by Laoag City, La Union, and back to Manila. 

Even after the said “Northern loop” of Luzon, the vehicle still had 247 kilometers remaining. So, the group decided to continue the tests with a short round-trip to Subic, Zambales. 

“So we went home, came back the next morning, got into the car, they were all still sealed, [then we> went up to Subic and back,” Ramirez shared. 

The 1,600-kilometer reading was taken from the trip meter of the vehicle after the epic multi-day journey. 

On paper, BYD said the Sealion 6 DM-i could cover 1,100 kilometers with a single full tank of fuel. Its 1.5-liter turbocharged engine and electric motor can also produce a combined total of 214 horsepower. In the local market, the sole variant of the all-new BYD model is priced at P1.548 million.
