How many Philippine-market models are affected by the said issue?
Per Toyota Motor Philippines, the number of affected vehicles is around 40,308 units. What could be the outcome of the said issue if left unaddressed?
If not addressed, Toyota Motor Philippines said that the nuts may become loose, causing abnormal noise, or they may fall off.Per the local arm of the Japanese car brand, Toyota Avanza and Veloz vehicles produced from January 07, 2022 to September 04, 2023, as well as Yaris Cross vehicles made from May 29, 2023 to September 04, 2023, could have incorrectly tightened front shock absorber nuts.
“Due to incorrect tightening instructions for the front shock absorber nuts, these nuts may not be adequately tightened,” Toyota Motor Philippines said in a press release.
As a result, “the nuts may become loose, causing abnormal noise.”
Furthermore, Toyota Motor Philippines noted that “these nuts may come off, posing a risk to vehicle stability.”
Approximately 40,308 vehicles (36,930 Avanza/ Veloz, 3,378 Yaris Cross) are likely affected by the said issue.
Toyota Motor Philippines, as part of its corporate commitment to product safety and quality, has launched a special service campaign to retighten the front shock absorber nut of the aforementioned vehicles.
Owners affected by the said issue will be notified by Toyota Motor Philippines. They — the carmaker explained — will receive an “official notification letter” and will be invited by authorized Toyota dealers to retighten the front shock absorber nut and inspect for any missing or damaged related parts.
The said service will be performed at no charge.
“Customers with vehicles included in the service campaign are highly encouraged to immediately set an appointment with any authorized Toyota dealer to perform the necessary vehicle repairs to prevent problems from occurring,” the company stated.
Not too long ago, Toyota Motor Philippines issued a recall on select Avanza, Veloz, and Raize units.
According to the Department of Trade and Industry-Region 12, the said recall was due to a possible issue with the disk brake system and front side impact beams of the abovementioned nameplates.
