Faulty pawl spring in Ford Ranger and Fiesta

MANILA: Poor Ford! How long has it been since the Ranger Raptor recall due to a faulty gearbox? Not so long, right? The American automaker has been hit with another rock. But the rock was always there, Ford just didn’t see it. This time around, Ford has announced a recall for the Ranger and the Fiesta. The recall has been forced to be issued due to the identification of faulty pawl spring tab in the side-doors. The defective spring can lead to improper closing of the doors and even sudden opening while driving. Major mishaps can occur and the passengers might get injured if the spring is not replaced. But what took Ford 8 long years to identify the issue?

The Ford Ranger pickup manufactured between May 23, 2011, and May 20, 2015, and the Ford Fiesta produced from May 27, 2010, to September 1, 2016, are said to be carrying the defective spring. 42,907 Fiestas and 85,863 Rangers in the Australian market will be recalled during the campaign.

On the issue, Ford Philippines said, “We will be sending a letter to Fiesta and Ranger customers with specific Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to have the side door latches on their vehicles replaced. Parts are now available at all Ford dealerships, and all of this work will be completed free of charge (parts and labour). The time needed for this repair is less than one-half day”.

The same rock has also come in the way of Mazda. The BT-50 pickup truck which uses the T6 Ranger as its foundation is also supposed to be carrying the faulty spring. Irrespective of the production years, 47,990 Mazda BT-50 have been affected and will be recalled by Mazda Australia. In the Philippines, the automaker will reach out to customers with affected vehicles soon.
